chapter 5

As Min-soo and Jin-ha approached his home, a sudden ache pierced Min-soo's heart. He felt an overwhelming sense of foreboding, his mind racing to the worst possible conclusion. Fear gripped him, and he quickened his pace, his heart pounding in his chest.

"What's wrong, young one?" Jin-ha asked, noticing Min-soo's distress, but Min-soo didn't respond. He was consumed by a terrible feeling - that his grandmother had passed away. She had been ill for a long time, and Min-soo had been her sole caregiver. The thought of losing her was unbearable.

Min-soo's eyes welled up with tears as he rushed towards his home, his heart heavy with grief. He couldn't shake the feeling that his worst fears were about to be confirmed. Jin-ha followed closely behind, sensing Min-soo's turmoil but unsure of what was happening.

As they reached the doorstep, Min-soo's hands trembled as he pushed open the door, steeling himself for what he might find inside. The silence that greeted him was oppressive, and he called out softly, "Grandmother?" The only response was the oppressive silence, heightening his anxiety.

As Min-soo approached his grandmother's room, his heart sank. Tears welled up in his eyes, threatening to spill over. Jin-ha followed closely behind, witnessing Min-soo's distress but unsure of how to intervene.

When Min-soo pushed open the door, his worst fear was confirmed. His grandmother's body lay motionless on the bed, her frail form still and silent. Min-soo's legs gave way beneath him, and he collapsed to his knees beside the bed.

With hesitant fingers, he reached out to touch his grandmother's hand, his touch gentle and reverent. As soon as he made contact with her skin, the dam broke, and tears streamed down his face. The reality of her passing hit him like a tidal wave, and Min-soo's body shook with sobs.

Jin-ha stood frozen in the doorway, unsure of how to comfort Min-soo in this moment of raw grief. He watched as Min-soo's tears fell onto his grandmother's hand, mingling with the silence that filled the room. The air was heavy with sorrow, and Jin-ha's expression softened, his eyes filled with a deep empathy for the young man mourning before him.

Jin-ha's eyes filled with understanding and compassion as he gazed at Min-soo's anguished face. He stepped forward, his movements gentle, and placed a comforting hand on Min-soo's shoulder. To his surprise, Min-soo clung to him, his grip tight and desperate, as if Jin-ha was his last lifeline.

"Can you...can you make my grandmother wake up again?" Min-soo's voice was barely audible, his words cracking with emotion.

Jin-ha's expression softened further, and he hesitated before responding, "Young one, a spirit cannot interfere in matters of death and life."

Min-soo's eyes looked up at Jin-ha, pleading and desperate. "But without her, there's nobody in this world who has treated me with love and care," he whispered, his voice laced with anguish.

Jin-ha's heart ached at Min-soo's words. He gently rubbed away Min-soo's tears, his touch warm and soothing. "Your grandmother has something to say," Jin-ha said softly, his voice filled with a deep understanding.

As Jin-ha spoke, Min-soo's gaze locked onto his, hope flickering in his eyes. Jin-ha's words offered a glimmer of solace, and Min-soo's grip on Jin-ha's arm tightened, as if he was clinging to a lifeline.

To Min-soo's surprise, he could see his grandmother's soul, her eyes filled with love and warmth. She placed a gentle hand over his face, her touch ethereal yet palpable.

"My little rabbit, how can I leave if you're going to cry like this?" she whispered, her voice barely audible. "It pains me so much."

Min-soo's eyes widened in wonder as he realized that his grandmother's soul was still with him, unable to depart due to her concern for her grandson. He felt a deep sense of love and gratitude towards her, and his eyes filled with tears once more.

As he reached out to touch her, his hands passed through her soul, unable to grasp her. Yet, he cupped his hand around her face, his fingers tracing the outline of her features.

"Grandmother," Min-soo whispered, his voice cracking with emotion. His grandmother's soul smiled, her eyes shining with love and affection. She leaned into his touch, her presence a comforting warmth that enveloped Min-soo's heart.
