The garage was quiet.
Except for your breath. And his silence.
You stood up slowly, phone in hand, fingers still trembling from everything—the message, his voice, the weight of whatever this was between you and Seth.
You looked down at him, where he sat on that damn amp like he was carved there.
Your voice was soft. Low.
Dangerous in a way only you could be.
“I’ve gotta go… Seth…”
And just for a second—
Just long enough for him to feel it—
Your eyes lingered.
Like maybe you didn’t want to go.
Like maybe if he said the right thing, you’d drop the phone and crawl back into that fire.
But he didn’t say a word.
Not one.
Just stared up at you, jaw clenched, eyes dark.
So you left.
Without another word.
Scene Cut: Skatepark. Midnight.
The world was asleep, but your heart wasn’t.
You walked toward the half-pipe where Jen waited, hands stuffed in his hoodie, board kicked up beside him. He saw you and that grin bloomed across his face—like you were the moon and he’d never seen stars before.
“Hey, drummer girl,” he said, voice softer than usual.
“You came.”
And in the silence between you—
The space where words hadn’t touched yet—
You felt it.
The pull.
The gravity.
The choice.
He took a step closer.
“I was scared you’d ghost me,” he whispered.
“Did I almost lose to the bassist?”
Your eyes snapped up to meet his.
Wide. Shaken.
Like you’d just been caught in a lie you hadn’t even spoken yet.
“W-what… do you—”
Jen didn’t move. Didn’t blink. Just shoved his hands deeper into the pockets of his hoodie, jaw twitching like he was trying so damn hard to stay chill.
But his voice?
Low. Measured.
Like he was skating the edge of something sharp.
“You said he was just your bassist.”
He wasn’t smiling anymore.
“But the way you said his name just now… Moon, that didn’t sound like just a bandmate.”
You froze. The wind picked up, brushing curls across your cheek, but you didn’t move.
“What, are you stalking my rehearsal space now?” you shot back, too fast, too defensive.
He didn’t flinch.
“Didn’t have to. Alina told me.”
And there it was.
The twist of the blade.
“She said she saw the way he looked at you. Said it wasn’t just a ‘band thing.’ Said she’s been around enough shows to know when someone’s already in the crowd before the music starts.”
You swallowed hard. But he didn’t stop.
“And I didn’t wanna believe her,” he said, voice cracking just a little. “Because I thought what we had was real. Even if it’s new. Even if it’s a mess. I thought maybe it was something.”
He stepped closer. Just one step.
“So tell me, Moon.
Is he still in your chest… when I’m this close?”
He was inches from you now.
Eyes dark. Shoulders tense.
Everything about him screaming don’t lie to me.
