Episode 3 – “His Assistant”
The morning light poured through the glass walls of Wolfe International like gold over obsidian.
Kira: “Breathe. You’re fine. Just a job. Just a man.”
She stepped off the private elevator, every click of her heels echoing confidence she didn’t quite feel. Her black pencil skirt hugged her just enough, the high collar of her blouse crisp and commanding.
But her heart was chaos.
She remembered those hands. That mouth. The sound he made when he—
No. Stop.
Kira (internally): He doesn’t know. He doesn’t remember. And I’m not telling him.
She reached his office. Door already open.
He was seated behind the glass desk, sleeves rolled up, tie loose. Ice-grey eyes flicked up to her. That stare always felt like being stripped down to the bone.
Kade: “You’re early.”
Kira (smiling faintly): “I like to make a good impression.”
He said nothing, only nodded toward a smaller desk off to the side of his office.
Kade: “Sit.”
She did. Her legs crossed slowly, knowing his gaze followed the motion. She pretended not to notice.
Kira: “What would you like to start with today, sir?”
Kade: “We’ll begin with your boundaries.”
That made her blink.
Kira: “Excuse me?”
He leaned back in his chair, fingers steepled.
Kade: “I don’t tolerate tardiness. I don’t accept excuses. I don’t like being asked questions I didn’t request answers to. You’ll work fast, think faster, and never speak over me. Understood?”
She smiled. It wasn’t sweet.
Kira: “Crystal clear.”
Kade: “Good. You’re already better than the last three.”
Kira: “Should I take that as a compliment?”
Kade: “You can take it however you like.”
The man was ice wrapped in heat, and it made her skin itch with memory. But he was testing her, and she wouldn’t flinch.
Not this time.
Hours passed. Reports, schedules, emails, meetings. She worked like a machine. Efficient. Elegant. Not once did she let her mask slip.
But his eyes were always on her.
Every time she shifted. Every time she stood. Every time she touched her lip with the tip of her pen. Kade Wolfe noticed.
He was curious.
And frustrated by that curiosity.
Late afternoon sun bled through the windows, golden and slow. Kira brought him a fresh espresso, setting it on the desk without a word.
Kade: “You wear lipstick to impress someone, Miss Black?”
Kira (without hesitation): “No, sir. Just to remind myself I still have power.”
He stared at her. Something flickered behind those pale eyes. Something unfamiliar. Dangerous.
Kade (low): “And do you, Miss Black?”
She leaned forward just slightly, her voice honeyed and sharp.
Kira: “More than you think.”
He didn’t answer. Only stared.
The silence was thick enough to choke on.
Finally, he looked away, grabbing the espresso.
Kade: “You're dismissed for today. Tomorrow, same time. Don’t wear that shade again.”
She turned toward the door, then paused.
Kira: “Why not?”
Kade (without looking): “It’s distracting.”
She smiled to herself as she walked out, the door clicking behind her.
Kira (whispered to herself): Still got it.
But what she didn’t see—was Kade sitting there long after. Eyes on the door she’d walked through.
Fingers on his lips.
And a whisper only the glass could hear.
Kade: “Green eyes...”
Author’s Note:
Ohhh, look at our baby Kira walking into the lion’s den like she didn’t once have her legs wrapped around him in a hotel bed—
and Kade? So cold. So controlled. So... confused. But what happens when those little memories start dripping back in? Hmm?
The eyes.
The lips.
The scent on his damn office chair.
He won’t stay unaware for long.
Episode 4 coming soon...
She’s playing it cool.
He’s losing control.
And the past he forgot?
It’s about to walk into his arms, wearing heels.
See you soon, sinners.
