The Days They Had ~

Alexei doesn't know when things turn out like this, when the paper notes or just letters turned into something more, something deeper.

One evening, the sky was turned into purple and gray shades, Alexei was in the kitchen when he turned to come out and saw him.

A young man with gentle and soft features, he was dressed in some old-fashioned clothes. But, it didn't matter to Alexei. The young man was standing in the hallway, his hands behind his back.

Alexei was frozen in his place, his hands trembled, he put the warm coffee mug on the shelf. The man slightly smiled at him, he waited for this moment for a long time.

“Le-… Leonid?” Alexei mumbled staring at the man, his heart thumped loudly in his chest, the butterflies danced in his stomach. He couldn't express his feelings in words.

“You talk too much in your mind.” The soft gentle whisper came from the young man as he smiled slightly.

After that they didn't talk, nor introduced themselves. They just felt each other's presence.

The next few days passed, it was quiet yet beautiful for both.

Leonid would appear frequently now, mostly without any warnings. Sometimes he would be in the hallways, sometimes near the window, and sometimes leaning on to the recorder humming the song with it.

Soon, the distance started to fade. They started to talk, time started to pass. Sometimes their talk would be too deep and sometimes light ones. And sometimes, not at all, just feeling each other's presence.

Alexei started to paint more these days, he wanted to capture the soft, delicate features of the young man and give them his colors. But, it was sometimes frustrating too, in reality Leonid was beyond his imagination, beyond being just captured on some papers.

They never touched each other, not really. They never felt the need, they just like each other's company.

They were watching the sun rising, sitting beside each other. Alexei could feel his heart pounding in his chest, he felt the warmth.

“You know… I would have kissed you by the time,” Leonid whispered.

Alexei heard him and wanted to laugh at it but instead blushed, “You are not in your right mind, are you?”

Leonid just winked at him with a smile.

Time started to pass away, and they cherished each and every second of the time they spent together.

One night, they danced together. The recorder played soft music as their bodies moved along with it. The floor making some creak sounds as their feet would touch it.

“You are not a very good dancer,” Leonid teased and saw how the expressions of Alexei changed into a scoff, and he laughed.

“Wasn't expecting it from you”

After that there weren't any more words, they just stared at each other's eyes and swayed their bodies along with the lyrics.

Alexei started to fall in love, he started to fall in love like people fell asleep. Slowly, quietly and then in deep slumber. He fell deep in love.

With every note, every smile, every passing time, he was just falling for it. Too deep.

But, deep in his chest, there was some uneasiness, he knew not all dreams are meant to be true. Not all dreams are real. But, the moments felt too real, and he just went with the flow.
