Gamer Life: Episode 2 – Justin’s First YouTube Video
The Night Before the Recording
It was a quiet evening in Justin’s room. The clock showed 8:30 PM. His parents, David and Olivia, were downstairs watching TV. Justin had just finished his homework and was eager to start his first ever Minecraft video for his YouTube channel, "JustinGamer95".
He grabbed his gaming headset—a Logitech G230—which cost around £40 back in 2009. It wasn’t the most expensive model, but it was comfortable and offered great sound quality for recording gameplay. After putting on his headset, he flipped off his room’s light, closed his window to avoid distractions, and turned to his parents to let them know.
“Mom, Dad, I’m making a video. I’ll be in my room, okay?” Justin said.
His dad, David, gave him a thumbs-up from the hallway.
“Have fun, son!” David called out.
Setting Up for the Video
Justin walked back to his desk, his mind racing with excitement. He pulled out his Logitech webcam, a little 2009 model with a resolution of 720p. He placed it on top of his computer, aiming it at his desk setup. He opened Minecraft, feeling the familiar thrill of anticipation as the game loaded. The screen flickered with the familiar loading screen as his character, JMaster_95, stood in a new Minecraft world.
Recording the Video
With everything ready, Justin hit the record button on his screen capture software—CamStudio, which was free but not the most powerful. The red recording dot appeared in the corner of the screen, and the webcam light turned on.
He began speaking into his microphone:
“Hey, guys! JustinGamer95 here! Welcome back to the channel. Today, we’re going to explore the new world I just created in Minecraft!”
He started moving his character around, showing off the basics: breaking blocks, crafting tools, and building a tiny house. As Justin was recording, he added his personal touch:
“Check this out, guys! I’m going to make the coolest little underground bunker right here.” He started digging down and constructing a simple but impressive base, all while explaining how to mine resources effectively. Every now and then, Justin would let out an excited “Whoa!” or “That’s cool!” when he found something interesting in the game, making it feel like a casual, fun experience for his viewers.
After 15 minutes of gameplay, Justin smiled and clicked stop recording.
Editing the Video
With the recording done, Justin opened his editing software, Windows Movie Maker (it was the simplest one for him to use at the time). He dragged his video clip into the timeline and began cutting out unnecessary parts. There were a few moments where his character was just standing still, and he didn’t want to bore his audience.
He added some transitions between the scenes—simple fades and wipes to keep things smooth. Justin also inserted some text on the screen for the intro:
“Welcome to JustinGamer95’s Minecraft Adventure!” with a cool Minecraft font. He made sure to add a small intro music clip—a royalty-free Minecraft music track.
Then, Justin worked on the sound. His voice was a bit quiet, so he raised the volume. He also added a few sound effects like a block breaking and a zombie growl in the background to make the video more exciting.
Once he was happy with the final edit, Justin saved the video file and prepared to upload it.
Uploading the Video to YouTube
Justin opened YouTube Studio on his Intel Core 2 laptop and clicked on the upload video button. The little progress bar appeared, showing the upload speed as it moved slowly. Justin’s heart raced as he watched it slowly fill up.
As the video was uploading, Justin started thinking about the title. He wanted it to be catchy and searchable, so he typed:
“Minecraft Alpha Adventures – Exploring New Worlds with JMaster_95!” 💥🌍
He then added a description:
“Join me, JustinGamer95, as I dive into Minecraft’s alpha version! In this episode, I build my first underground base and show you how to survive the first night! Make sure to subscribe for more epic Minecraft adventures!”
Hashtags:
Minecraft #Gaming #MinecraftAlpha #MinecraftAdventure #JustinGamer95
Finally, he chose the thumbnail—a screenshot of his Minecraft character, JMaster_95, standing proudly in front of his little underground base with the sunset in the background.
After double-checking everything, Justin hit the publish button, and just like that, his first YouTube video was live! 🎬
Celebrating the First Upload
Justin leaned back in his chair, feeling a rush of excitement. His first video was out there for the world to see. He couldn’t wait to check the views the next morning.
He quickly turned off his computer, pulled off his headset, and walked downstairs.
“I did it, Mom, Dad! My first video is up!” he said, grinning ear to ear.
David smiled, giving Justin a proud pat on the back.
“Good job, son. Keep it up!”
