Sketch to Story – Episode 1: The Beginning of a Dream
The story opens in Nairobi, Kenya, where we meet Paul Martin Oumarou Leboo Ramirez—a 13-year-old boy with a deep love for superheroes. Paul is of Cameroonian, Kenyan, and American descent, but he has lived in Kenya his entire life.
Paul has always been fascinated by superheroes—their strength, their purpose, and their ability to inspire people. He spends hours reading comic books, watching superhero movies, and dreaming of creating his own hero.
One day, Paul's father, Pierre Ramirez, notices his son’s obsession with superheroes. He often sees Paul sketching in his school books or reenacting superhero fights in their backyard. Curious, Pierre talks to his wife, Aisha Leboo, about it.
👉 Pierre: "Aisha, have you noticed how much Paul loves superheroes?"
👉 Aisha: "Of course. He never stops talking about them. He even sleeps with his comic books under his pillow."
👉 Pierre: "I think we should take him to Hero Con. Maybe it will inspire him."
👉 Aisha: "That’s a great idea! He would love that."
A Trip to Hero Con
A week later, Paul is standing in front of Hero Con Nairobi, a massive comic convention filled with superhero fans, comic book artists, and creators. The place is electric—giant banners of superheroes hang from the ceiling, people dressed in costumes roam the halls, and booths display rare comics and action figures.
Paul is overwhelmed with excitement. His eyes scan the venue until they land on someone special—his idol, Karla Vega, a famous comic book artist from Mexico, known for creating "The Shadow Wolf", a hero loved worldwide.
👉 Paul (whispers in awe): "That’s Karla Vega! She’s the creator of The Shadow Wolf!"
He quickly rushes to meet her at her booth. Karla, a kind woman in her late 30s with short brown hair and stylish glasses, smiles warmly at Paul.
👉 Karla Vega: "Hey there, young hero! What’s your name?"
👉 Paul: "I’m Paul! I love your comics so much. I wish I was talented and blessed with money like you so I could start my own comic."
Karla kneels to his level and looks him straight in the eyes.
👉 Karla: "Paul, talent and money are not what make a great comic. Passion and hard work do. If you love something, you’ll find a way."
👉 Paul: "But… I don’t even know how to draw."
👉 Karla: "That should never stop you. Do you think I was born drawing? No! I practiced every day, and I never gave up."
She gently places her hand on his head, then kisses his forehead and hugs him.
👉 Karla: "If you want to make comics, start now. Don’t wait for talent—create it."
Paul’s First Hero
Paul leaves Hero Con inspired. That night, he sits in his room with a blank sketchbook. His parents peek in and see him fully focused, sketching something with a pencil.
He draws a hero unlike any other—a masked warrior with a sleek black and blue suit, glowing red eyes, and a symbol of a wolf on his chest. The hero wears a high-tech mask that covers his face and has gadgets on his wrists.
Above his drawing, Paul writes the name of his first superhero:
"NIGHTBLADE"
After staring at his creation for a while, he whispers:
👉 Paul: "One day, I’ll make this into a real comic."
He smiles, closes his sketchbook, and goes to bed, dreaming of the stories he will tell.
