A Game of Fire and Ice

Evelyn knew she was playing with fire—but that was the thrill, wasn’t it?

Adrian wasn’t just another man intrigued by her charm. He was a storm, dangerous and unpredictable, and yet, she wasn’t running. No, she was standing right at the edge, daring him to pull her in.

And he was close to doing just that.

The music had shifted to something slower, something that made the air between them thicker. He was standing there, watching her, his gaze intense—like a man on the verge of making a decision he couldn't take back.

Evelyn lifted her glass, taking a slow sip, her lips curling into a small smile. "You look like you're about to say something," she teased.

Adrian stepped forward, closing the distance between them. "Maybe I am."

Her heartbeat skipped—just for a second.

He wasn’t smiling, wasn’t playing like he usually did. No sharp remarks, no teasing. Just that unreadable expression, the one that made it impossible to tell whether he wanted to kiss her or destroy her.

"Then say it," Evelyn challenged, tilting her head slightly.

Adrian’s fingers grazed the side of her arm, a touch so light it almost didn’t feel real. But it was enough to send a shiver down her spine.

"I don’t like games," he murmured.

She arched an eyebrow. "Really? Because it seems to me like you’re very good at them."

His lips twitched. "Not this time."

And then—he moved closer.

Evelyn didn’t step back. She held his gaze, unwavering, as the space between them disappeared. His scent—clean, rich, and entirely intoxicating—filled her senses, making it impossible to think straight.

"Tell me something," Adrian said, his voice dropping lower. "Are you doing this just to win?"

Evelyn’s lips parted slightly, but she didn’t answer immediately.

Because, for the first time, she wasn’t sure.

She had started this as a challenge, a way to see how far she could push Adrian Westwood before he broke. But now, standing so close, feeling the warmth of his body, hearing the rough edge in his voice…

Winning suddenly didn’t seem as important.

Adrian’s fingers brushed against her jaw, tilting her chin slightly. "No answer?" he asked, his lips just inches from hers.

Evelyn’s breath was shaky, but she forced herself to smile. "Wouldn’t it be more fun if you found out yourself?"

His eyes darkened.

"Careful, Evelyn," Adrian murmured. "You're playing with something neither of us can control."

And then—he pulled away.

Just like that.

Leaving her standing there, heart racing, as if nothing had happened at all.

Damn him.
