Adrian wasn’t used to this.
Being challenged? Sure.
Being ignored? Occasionally.
Being outplayed? Never.
Yet, Evelyn had done just that—and walked away unbothered.
And he? He was sitting in the VIP section, drink in hand, watching her with a look that was anything but casual.
Damien had the nerve to laugh. “I’ve never seen you this invested in a woman before.”
Adrian swirled the amber liquid in his glass. “That’s because none of them were worth it.”
Damien smirked. “And she is?”
Adrian’s eyes flickered toward Evelyn, watching as she leaned in slightly while talking to Moreau. He clenched his jaw.
“Yes.”
That was the problem.
Meanwhile…
Evelyn felt his gaze.
She didn’t need to turn around to know Adrian Westwood was watching her like a predator who’d just found his most interesting prey.
Moreau sighed. “You’re playing a dangerous game.”
Evelyn sipped her drink. “Am I?”
Moreau chuckled. “Yes. And the worst part? You like it.”
Evelyn didn’t deny it. Because he wasn’t wrong.
A Dance with the Devil
Minutes later, Evelyn felt him before she heard him.
A presence—strong, unwavering, utterly unshakable.
She turned, and there he was.
Adrian.
His suit was flawless, his expression unreadable. But his eyes? Oh, they burned.
“Care for a dance?”
She raised a brow. “Is that a request or an order?”
Adrian smirked. “Does it matter?”
Evelyn held his gaze for a long moment before setting her glass down. “No, I suppose it doesn’t.”
The crowd around them faded as Adrian led her onto the dance floor.
His grip was firm, confident. Not controlling, but impossible to ignore.
And when they moved, it wasn’t just dancing—it was a challenge wrapped in elegance.
“Relax,” Adrian murmured, pulling her just a fraction closer.
“I am relaxed,” Evelyn countered.
His lips twitched. “Are you?”
She narrowed her eyes. “You think you make me nervous?”
Adrian leaned in, voice dangerously low. “No. I think I make you curious.”
She let out a small laugh. “And that’s dangerous for you, isn’t it?”
He twirled her smoothly, their movements effortless. “No, sweetheart.”
He pulled her back against him. Their faces were inches apart now, her breath fanning against his lips.
“The real danger,” Adrian murmured, “is that I’m curious too.”
Her heartbeat spiked.
She knew she should step away, should break this tension before it spiraled into something neither of them could control.
But she didn’t.
Because in that moment, she wasn’t sure she wanted to.
Author’s Note
"And just like that, the hunter finds himself hunted." Adrian’s falling—harder, faster, and without a safety net. And Evelyn? She’s standing at the edge, debating whether to jump.
What happens next? Stay tuned, because things are about to heat up.
