Adrian Westwood was not a man who got played.
Yet here he was, still feeling the phantom touch of Evelyn’s hand on his chest as she flipped him onto the dance floor in front of half the damn city.
He should be furious.
Humiliated.
Plotting revenge.
Instead?
He was grinning like a madman.
"You’re enjoying this way too much," Damien muttered, nursing a drink as he watched Adrian from the VIP section.
Adrian swirled the whiskey in his glass, his smirk never fading. "And why wouldn’t I? It’s not every day someone dares to challenge me like that."
Damien raised a brow. "She embarrassed you in front of Moreau. You should be pissed."
Adrian took a slow sip, letting the burn of the liquor settle in his chest before setting the glass down with a soft clink.
"She made things interesting," he corrected. "And I don’t get interested easily."
Damien sighed. "You’re ridiculous."
"That’s one way to put it."
Across the room, Evelyn was laughing with Moreau. The bastard looked way too amused for Adrian’s liking, but he pushed the irritation down. It wasn’t jealousy—not yet, anyway.
But there was something about the way she carried herself—like she belonged in a world that had no place for her.
And yet, here she was. Holding her ground.
And stealing his attention.
"You’re staring," Damien pointed out.
Adrian smirked. "She’ll have to get used to it."

Meanwhile…
Evelyn knew exactly what she’d done.
She’d pushed Adrian Westwood into unfamiliar territory—losing.
And yet, instead of anger, there was amusement in his eyes.
That? That was more dangerous than anything else.
"You shouldn’t provoke him like that," Moreau mused, sipping his drink.
Evelyn raised a brow. "Why not?"
"Because men like him don’t lose. And when they do…" Moreau tilted his head. "They make sure it never happens again."
Evelyn smirked. "Let him try."
Moreau chuckled. "You enjoy the chase, don’t you?"
She shrugged, twirling the stem of her glass between her fingers. "I enjoy reminding men that I don’t play by their rules."
Moreau’s expression darkened slightly, but before he could respond, a familiar presence made itself known.
A strong, confident stride. A subtle shift in the atmosphere.
Evelyn didn’t have to turn around to know who it was.
Adrian Westwood.
And when he stopped beside her, his voice was low, teasing—dangerous.
"You walk away after a stunt like that?"
She finally looked up at him, unfazed. "I thought you enjoyed a little unpredictability."
Adrian smirked. "I do. But now, I have a question for you, Evelyn."
She raised a brow. "Go on."
He leaned in, his lips inches from her ear.
"Are you ready for what happens next?"
Evelyn held his gaze, a slow smile forming. "Always."
And just like that, the game had truly begun.
