Evelyn stared at the business card Vincent Moreau’s messenger had left behind.
Sleek. Black. Nothing but a name and a private number.
Adrian watched her from across the room, arms crossed. “You’re not actually thinking about calling him.”
She twirled the card between her fingers. “I don’t think. I act.”
“That’s exactly what I’m worried about.”
Evelyn sighed, tossing the card onto her desk. “Moreau isn’t going away just because we ignore him. If he wants something from me, I’d rather know what it is before he decides to take it himself.”
Adrian’s jaw ticked. “And what if meeting him puts a target on your back?”
She smirked. “I’ve had a target on my back since the day I was born.”
Adrian muttered something under his breath, probably a curse, but Evelyn had already picked up her phone. Before she could second-guess herself, she dialed the number.
The line rang once. Twice.
Then—
“I was wondering when you’d call.”
Vincent Moreau’s voice was smooth, like silk over a blade.
Evelyn leaned back in her chair. “I don’t like unfinished business.”
A low chuckle. “Smart girl.”
She ignored the comment. “Let’s meet. Tonight.”
Silence. Then—
“I like a woman who takes control.”
She rolled her eyes. “I don’t care what you like, Moreau. 8 PM. My office.”
Another chuckle. “I’ll be there.”
The call ended.
Evelyn glanced up at Adrian. He looked pissed.
“That was reckless,” he muttered.
She shrugged. “Reckless is just another word for bold.”
Adrian exhaled sharply. “I swear, you’re going to be the death of me.”
She smirked. “Then try to stay alive, Westwood.”

8 PM – The Meeting
Vincent Moreau walked into Evelyn’s office like he owned the place.
He was tall, effortlessly charming, with a presence that made people either fear him or fall for him. Evelyn wasn’t interested in either.
She gestured to the chair across from her. “Sit.”
Moreau smirked. “I like a woman who gives orders.”
Evelyn didn’t respond. She only stared.
After a pause, Moreau leaned back, his smirk never fading. “You’re not like the others, are you?”
She tilted her head. “You already knew that. Otherwise, you wouldn’t be here.”
Moreau chuckled. “Smart and stunning. No wonder Adrian is always hovering around you.”
Evelyn ignored the comment. “What do you want from me, Moreau?”
His smile disappeared. “I want a deal.”
She raised an eyebrow. “I don’t make deals with people I don’t trust.”
Moreau smirked. “Then I’ll have to make you trust me.”
Evelyn exhaled. “This is business. Not a game.”
“Oh, Evelyn.” His gaze darkened. “Everything is a game. You just have to know how to play it.”

Author’s Note
"And that’s Chapter 8! Moreau’s finally face-to-face with Evelyn, and something tells me this deal isn’t going to be simple. 😏
Next chapter? A dangerous offer, a close call, and tension that you could cut with a knife.
