A Game of Power

The grand ballroom of the Royale Hotel was nothing short of breathtaking. Crystal chandeliers hung from the ceiling, casting a golden glow over the sea of well-dressed business elites. The scent of expensive cologne and ambition filled the air.

Evelyn stepped inside, draped in a sleek black gown that hugged her curves perfectly. Her presence commanded attention, yet she remained untouchable—a mystery no one could unravel.

She scanned the crowd, looking for familiar faces. That was when she felt it—a gaze burning into her skin.

And she already knew who it belonged to.

Adrian's Entrance

"Didn’t think you’d actually show up alone," Adrian murmured, appearing beside her like a shadow.

Evelyn didn't flinch. "And yet, here I am."

His eyes darkened as he took her in from head to toe. "You look… dangerous."

She smirked. "Good. That means I fit in."

His lips twitched in amusement. "Dance with me."

She turned to face him fully. "I don’t recall saying yes."

"You also don’t recall saying no," he countered, extending a hand.

A challenge.

The music changed—something slow, intimate. Evelyn exhaled sharply before placing her hand in his.

As Adrian pulled her onto the dance floor, she felt something shift in the air.

He wasn’t just playing anymore.

On the Dance Floor

"Let me guess," Evelyn mused, allowing him to lead. "You’re used to getting what you want."

Adrian’s grip on her waist tightened slightly. "Not always."

She raised an eyebrow. "Is that right?"

His smirk returned, but this time, there was something else behind it. "But I don’t stop until I do."

A shiver ran down her spine, but she masked it with a scoff. "Persistent, aren’t you?"

"You have no idea."

The way he said it—like it was a promise—made her stomach flip.

But she wasn’t about to let him see that.

An Uninvited Guest

Just as Evelyn was about to respond, a voice interrupted them.

"Well, well… I was wondering when I’d get to meet the famous Evelyn Sinclair."

Both she and Adrian turned to see a man in his late forties, dressed in an expensive navy suit, watching them with sharp eyes.

Evelyn recognized him immediately—Vincent Moreau. A ruthless businessman with ties to the underworld.

He smiled, but it didn’t reach his eyes. "You’re quite the enigma, Miss Sinclair. Young, powerful, and yet… somehow, no one knows where you really came from."

Adrian’s grip on her hand tightened, his body shifting slightly—protectively.

Evelyn kept her expression neutral. "Some mysteries are better left unsolved, Mr. Moreau."

Vincent chuckled, but there was an edge to it. "Oh, but what’s the fun in that?"

The tension was suffocating, but Evelyn refused to blink first.

The game had just changed.

And she wasn’t sure whether she liked it.
