Evelyn adjusted the strap of her bag as she stepped into the grand lecture hall. She wasn’t new to luxurious settings—after all, she was a CEO. But there was something about college that made her feel... different. Maybe it was the way people ****whispered**** when she passed by, their eyes filled with curiosity, admiration, and maybe even jealousy.
She ignored them. She was here to study, not to make friends.
Sliding into an empty seat near the window, she pulled out her notebook. Just as she flipped it open, a presence made the air shift. A tall figure slid into the seat beside her—Adrian West.
Evelyn didn’t need to look to know who it was. His cologne, an intoxicating mix of expensive whiskey and danger, filled the air.
“Didn’t expect to see you sitting alone,” Adrian mused, resting his arm on the back of her chair like he owned the space.
She raised an eyebrow but didn’t turn to face him. “And why would that be?”
A smirk tugged at his lips. “Because people like you—rich, successful, beautiful—tend to attract attention.”
Evelyn finally looked at him. “Yet, here you are, proving your own point.”
For the first time in his life, first time in his life, Adrian found himself at a loss for words. He was used to people being intimidated by him, not challenging him.
Before he could respond, the professor walked in, calling the class to attention.
But Adrian? He wasn’t paying attention. His eyes were still on her.
After Class
Evelyn gathered her books quickly, hoping to escape before Adrian could corner her again. But fate had other plans. The moment she stepped out, she was greeted by a familiar voice.
“Leaving so soon, CEO?”
She sighed, turning to face him. “I have a company to run, West.”
He chuckled, stepping closer. “So do I. But look at us, playing students.”
Evelyn crossed her arms. “Playing? I actually plan to graduate.”
Adrian tilted his head. “And you think I don’t?”
“You don’t seem like the type who follows the rules.”
His smirk deepened. “Maybe I like to make my own.”
Evelyn’s lips twitched. “Then good luck keeping up with me.”
She turned to leave, but his voice stopped her once more.
“Careful, Evelyn. You might find that I don't lose."
She didn’t turn around, but she could feel his gaze burning into her back as she walked away.
Adrian watched her go, and for the first time, he realized something—this wasn’t just fun anymore.
It was a challenge.
And Adrian never walked away from a challenge.
