Series Title: The Last
Episode 3: “The First Blade”
The wind was wild.
The waves roared.
But Roger’s heart beat calmly, like the steady thump of a war drum. He was finally at sea.
His boat, the Jolly Roger, creaked as it sliced through the waters. The sky stretched endlessly above. The taste of salt, freedom, and danger all mixed in the air.
Roger had no map. No crew.
Just his sword, his haki, and his dream.
⚓ A Mysterious Island
Three days into sailing, a storm hit. Roger fought the waves with nothing but instinct. Lightning cracked. His mast nearly snapped. The sea dragged him toward a strange island—misty and surrounded by cliffs like teeth.
He barely survived the crash, crawling onto the sand, soaked but alive.
Roger (coughing):
“Looks like the sea’s testing me already…”
He tied what was left of his boat and ventured inland. The island felt… silent. Too silent.
Then he heard it—clashing steel.
🗡️ The Duelist in the Mist
Roger followed the sound. Deeper into the jungle. Then—
He saw him.
A boy, maybe a bit older than Roger. Shirtless, wearing tattered pants.
Long black hair. Eyes like daggers.
And in both hands, shining silver blades.
He was fighting alone against five heavily armed bounty hunters.
And he was winning.
His movement was effortless. His blades danced—fast, fluid, like water and fire at the same time. Each swing disarmed, disabled, or dropped an enemy.
Roger watched, stunned.
When it was over, the boy sheathed his blades, sighed, and turned to Roger.
Boy:
“Another one? I’m tired.”
Roger (grinning):
“Nah. I just wanted to know your name before I ask you to join my crew.”
🧠 His Name Was...
Boy:
“Tao. I don’t do crews.”
Roger:
“Good. I don’t do normal captains.”
Tao raised a brow. Then he noticed Roger’s sword.
Tao:
“That’s not a mass-forged blade…”
Roger:
“I helped make it. Kaenshō. Wanna see what it can do?”
Tao (smirking):
“If I beat you, you leave. If you beat me, I’ll think about joining.”
⚔️ The Duel – Tao vs. Roger
They fought in the rain.
Sword to sword. Haki to reflex. Blow for blow.
Roger’s power was force and fury.
Tao’s style was speed and skill.
Roger used Armament Haki, his blade coated in dark gloss. Tao used no Haki—but his technique was nearly perfect. He could slice leaves without cutting the branches they hung on.
After one hour, they clashed mid-air.
Both swords locked.
Tao (grinning):
“You’re different…”
Roger (grinning back):
“So are you.”
They jumped back. Tao lowered his blades.
Tao:
“I’m in. I was looking for a reason to leave this island anyway.”
🏴☠️ The First Crew Mate
They rebuilt the damaged boat together. Roger taught Tao basic sailing. Tao taught Roger a bit of sword finesse.
That night, they sat under the stars.
Tao:
“Why do you want to be a pirate?”
Roger:
“To find The Last.”
Tao:
“That old legend? It’s real?”
Roger:
“I don’t care if it is. The journey will be.”
Tao smirked and offered him a toast with coconut water.
Tao:
“To the Roger Pirates.”
Roger:
“To the first crewmate.”
