Chapter 4: Prom?

Soon prom comes along. I sit at lunch with a friend of mine, Leslie. We talk about what dresses to wear though it’s mainly her talking about where to shop and what dress to get as I already had mine purchased and in my closet. She then cuts herself off and smiles at me as I’m clearly not listening to whatever she’s saying and blurts out “what if you ask Alex to prom?” I visibly choke on my own saliva as I glare at her. “I’m sorry do you mean the Alex that has made my high school life miserable?!” She just giggles and looks at me as if she’s the greatest matchmaker. “Do you guys seriously not see how perfect you guys are for each other. Agh you guys are literally the same person! it’s so sweet like a classic enemies to lovers trope!” I roll my eyes of course she was thinking like that. She only read books and watched tv she thought life was a romance kdrama. I hated it.

After school I get home and try on the dress. It was a long mermaid style dress that was sage green and had a slit up my left leg. The back was open and it was a metallic like material. This was the dress of my dreams. I couldn’t wait for prom just to dress up and look pretty. I change out of it and go study as always. After all I need to defeat Alex in every way possible. I go to bed with the thought of prom the next day. Finally the night comes along, I have no date but I do have Leslie. she’s beautiful though, so I expect her to get snatched up by a guy in the middle of prom. She was blonde and blue eyed, tall and slim and knew how to dress. She was also the sweetest soul, just the perfect woman.

I look around for her and my eyes land on her she’s in a sapphire blue dress that suits her so well. I rush up to her as we both squeal over our pretty dresses, makeup, nails, etc. The night goes well as I talk and dance with Leslie but just as I thought some guy who was apparently named jasper came and snatched her up leaving me alone. I didn’t blame her when she left, I encouraged herto go have fun with Jacob. I didn’t want to hold her back. I sit back in a random seat and look around for something to do before my eyes land on Alex. He looked good, though, I would never say that out loud. Something about his suit freaked me out though. His tie matched my dress nearly perfectly. The same sage green my dress was, his tie was. I examined him looking him up and down, he usually looked messy, never had his tie on properly, messy hair, and always arrogant. Right now he looked calm and... handsome? Just then I hear a voice right next to my ear “you like him” I flinch and turn to spot Leslie grinning from ear to ear. “You’re checking him out!” “No I’m not!” I yell back. She’s pissing me off. She just smiles before sitting beside me. “What happened to Justin?” “Jasper.” She corrected me. “He was nice and all but he was really loud and I couldn’t stand it I’m sorry. “You’re so picky” I tease. “And you’re in denial” she says as she nods in Alex’s direction. I merely glare at her until she smiles and speaks up “forgive me?” “Forgive you for wha-“ I say before she stands up and calls over at Alex. I slightly panic and feel the need to leave but she doesn’t let me. Alex walks over in confusion before spotting me. Once he does his gaze immediately hardens his hatred for me was deep as hell. “Come sit down here Alex. I have to... go pee.”

And just like that she’s gone and he’s sat. I look over at him and sigh this was very much her typical behavior. We sit in silence before he finally speaks up. “Where’s your date?” I sigh and stay facing the ground before speaking up “I don’t have one.” He just scoffs “yeah because that’s a surprise” I wasn’t in the mood for his comments so I don’t respond. We sit there in silence until I speak up. “How come you chose a green tie?” He smiles “it’s my favorite color. What about you?” “Its my favorite color too.” He nods and faces forward. “Its a nice dress. I’m only saying that because it’s green so don’t get happy.” he nursed my little bubble with those last few words. I decide to get back at him in a different way. “Yeah and thats a nice suit. And I’m saying that because I genuinely like that suit on you.” He looks up at me visibly stunned. “You’re complimenting me?” He asks, surprised. “I’m only saying that because this is the first time you’ve dressed decently so don’t get happy.” He just rolls his eyes at me. “Of course. You never change.”
