The Everyday Journey
Here's Episode 1 of your series, introducing the main character and including lessons in Physics, Further Mathematics, and Marketing as if I’m teaching you.
Episode 1: The Dream of a Businesswoman
In the bustling town of Brightfield, a young woman named Amara sat in her SS3 classroom, her eyes filled with determination. She had a dream—to become a successful businesswoman. But first, she had to conquer her upcoming WAEC and JAMB exams.
Beside her sat her best friend, Deborah, who always encouraged her.
"Amara, you study too much!" Deborah teased.
"You know I have to," Amara laughed. "I need to ace these exams if I want to get into a good university and start my business journey."
The bell rang, and their Physics teacher, Mr. Ade, walked in.
Physics Lesson: Motion and Newton’s Laws
"Good morning, class!" Mr. Ade greeted. "Today, we’ll be discussing Newton’s Laws of Motion. Can anyone remind us of the first law?"
Amara raised her hand. "Sir, Newton’s First Law states that an object will remain at rest or in uniform motion unless acted upon by an external force."
"Excellent! This is also called the Law of Inertia," Mr. Ade explained. "For example, if a car is moving at a constant speed and you suddenly apply the brakes, your body wants to keep moving forward because of inertia. That’s why wearing a seatbelt is important!"
Deborah whispered, "So inertia is the reason I almost fell when the bus driver stopped suddenly this morning?"
"Exactly!" Amara smiled.
Mr. Ade continued, "Now, Newton’s Second Law states that Force = Mass × Acceleration (F = ma). This means that the heavier an object is, the more force is required to move it. For example, if you push a small box versus a big box, which one moves faster?"
"The small box!" the class responded.
"Good! Now, let’s talk about the Third Law—‘For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.’ When you jump off a boat, you push the boat backward while moving forward. That’s Newton’s Third Law in action!"
After the Physics class, it was time for Further Mathematics with Mr. Olumide.
Further Mathematics Lesson: Differentiation
"Class, today, we’ll dive into Differentiation," Mr. Olumide announced. "Differentiation helps us find the rate of change of a function."
Amara was excited. She knew this was important for business—especially for analyzing profits and trends.
"Let’s start with a simple function:
y=x2y = x^2To differentiate this, we use the power rule, which states:
ddxxn=nxn−1\frac{d}{dx} x^n = n x^{n-1}So, for y = x², we bring down the power (2) and subtract one from the exponent:
dydx=2x2−1=2x\frac{dy}{dx} = 2x^{2-1} = 2xThis means the slope of the function at any point x is 2x."
Deborah frowned. "Sir, how does this help in real life?"
"Great question!" Mr. Olumide smiled. "Imagine you own a business, and your profit depends on how much you sell. Differentiation helps you find the rate at which your profit is increasing or decreasing, so you know when to invest more or change your strategy."
The final class of the day was Marketing, taught by Mrs. Adebayo.
Marketing Lesson: The 4Ps of Marketing
"Good afternoon, class! Today, we’re learning about the 4Ps of Marketing: Product, Price, Place, and Promotion. These are the foundation of any successful business."
Amara quickly wrote them down. She knew she would use this knowledge in the future.
Product – "This is what you sell. It could be clothes, food, phones, or even services like tutoring."
Price – "The amount customers are willing to pay. You must set a price that covers your cost but is still affordable for customers."
Place – "Where you sell your product. Is it online, in a shop, or in a market?"
Promotion – "How you advertise. Do you use social media, TV ads, or word-of-mouth?"
Mrs. Adebayo smiled. "Amara, since you want to be a businesswoman, which of these do you think is the most important?"
Amara thought for a moment. "Promotion! Even if I have a great product, no one will buy it if they don’t know about it."
"Brilliant answer!" the teacher praised.
As the school day ended, Amara and Deborah walked home.
"Today’s lessons were great," Amara said. "I learned how motion affects real life, how differentiation helps in business, and how to market a product!"
"One day, you’ll own a big company, and I’ll remind you of this moment," Deborah laughed.
Amara smiled. "One day."
