Episode 11 – "Year 5 Introduction & Unexpected Discussion"

Scene 1: Entering the Classroom

(Ebere walks into the Year 5 classroom, feeling a mix of excitement and curiosity. She sees 20 students sitting in their seats, looking at her expectantly. Some whisper among themselves.)

Ebere (smiling): "Good morning, class!"

Students (in unison): "Good morning, Miss Ebere!"

Ebere: "I am Miss Ebere, your new English teacher. Before we begin, I want to get to know all of you. So, let’s do a little introduction. Say your name and something interesting about yourself."

(The students begin introducing themselves one by one.)

Lameul (boy): "I’m Lameul. I love football and I support Chelsea."

Lamuela (girl, twin of Lameul): "I’m Lamuela. I like singing and my brother is annoying." (The class laughs.)

Tosie (girl): "I’m Tosie. I want to be a fashion designer."

Olivia (girl): "I love reading books and I want to be a lawyer."

Clarence (boy): "I like playing video games and watching anime."

Wealth (girl): "I love dancing and acting."

Matthew (boy): "I want to be a pastor when I grow up." (Some students giggle.)

Daniel (boy): "I love playing basketball."

John (boy): "I love food!" (The whole class bursts into laughter.)

(After all the students introduce themselves, Ebere claps her hands.)

Ebere: "It’s nice to meet all of you. Now, let’s settle down."

Scene 2: The Unexpected Discussion

(Before Ebere can start her lesson, some students start whispering and giggling.)

Clarence (grinning): "Miss Ebere, why is it that some girls have big breasts and some have small ones?"

(Ebere raises an eyebrow, slightly taken aback by the sudden question. Some students laugh, while the girls roll their eyes.)

Lamuela (crossing her arms): "What kind of question is that?"

John (smirking): "No, seriously, even in our class, some girls have bigger chests than others. Is it food or what?"

(Ebere sighs, realizing that this is about to be one of those conversations.)

Ebere: "Alright, listen up. First of all, everyone’s body grows differently. Some people develop faster than others. It has nothing to do with food, it’s just how their body works."

Tosie (grinning): "But Miss Ebere, even you have big—"

Ebere (cutting her off): "Don’t finish that sentence, Tosie." (The class erupts in laughter.)

Matthew: "Okay, okay, but why do boys talk about it all the time?"

Ebere: "Because they are curious. But remember, it’s important to respect people’s bodies. Everyone is different, and that’s okay."

Daniel (raising his hand): "Miss Ebere, what about butts?"

Ebere (rubbing her forehead): "Daniel, what about them?"

Daniel: "Why do some girls have big ones and some don’t?"

Ebere: "Same reason, Daniel. People have different body types. Now, can we move on?"

Wealth (teasing): "Miss Ebere, don’t you think some boys in this class will grow up to be perverts?"

(The boys protest loudly, while the girls laugh. Ebere shakes her head, trying to regain control.)

Ebere: "Alright, that’s enough. This is an English class, not Biology or Gossip Hour. Let’s get to learning."

Scene 3: Teaching Time

(After the chaotic discussion, Ebere looks at the clock and realizes she only has 10 minutes left to actually teach.)

Ebere: "Since we only have a few minutes left, let’s do a quick grammar lesson. Who can tell me what a noun is?"

(Several hands go up.)

Olivia: "A noun is a name of a person, place, or thing."

Ebere (smiling): "Good! Now, can someone give me examples?"

Lameul: "Teacher!"

John: "Rice!" (Class laughs.)

Lamuela: "School!"

Ebere: "Excellent! Now, there are different types of nouns: Proper nouns, common nouns, abstract nouns, and collective nouns. Can anyone give me an example of a proper noun?"

Clarence: "Lagos!"

Ebere: "Good. That’s a proper noun because it’s a specific place. What about an abstract noun?"

Matthew: "Love?"

Ebere: "Yes! Abstract nouns are things we can’t touch, like love, happiness, or fear."

(She quickly writes examples on the board before the bell rings.)

Ebere: "Alright, class, that’s all for today. Tomorrow, we’ll continue with adjectives!"

(The students pack up their books, some still giggling about the earlier discussion. As they leave, Clarence walks up to Ebere.)

Clarence (grinning): "Miss Ebere, thanks for answering our questions. Even though you were shy."

Ebere (raising an eyebrow): "Clarence, go home."

(He laughs and runs out as Ebere shakes her head, already preparing herself for what tomorrow might bring.)
