Episode 10 – "Handling Jason & A New Challenge"
Scene 1: Investigating the Incident
(Ebere enters the Year 3 classroom after her tense conversation with Mr. Ade. The students are seated, chatting quietly. She clears her throat, and they all turn to her.)
Ebere (serious tone): "Good morning, class."
Students: "Good morning, Miss Ebere!"
Ebere: "Before we start today’s lesson, I need to address something very important. Yesterday, David got injured during break time. I want to know exactly what happened."
(The class goes silent. Some students glance at Jason, a boy sitting at the back with his arms crossed.)
Ebere (calmly): "Jason, can you tell me what happened?"
(Jason looks at his desk, avoiding eye contact.)
Jason (mumbling): "We were playing... I didn’t mean to hurt him."
Ebere: "Okay, but how exactly did he get injured?"
(Jason hesitates before answering.)
Jason: "He was running with the ball, and I tried to take it. I pushed him... but I didn’t think he would fall and hit his head."
(A few students nod, confirming the story.)
Ebere (firmly): "Jason, even if you didn’t mean to hurt him, pushing is dangerous. You have to be more careful."
Jason (quietly): "I’m sorry, Miss Ebere."
Ebere: "It’s not just me you should apologize to. David was hurt because of this."
(At that moment, David walks in, his forehead still bandaged. Jason quickly stands up and walks over to him.)
Jason (looking guilty): "David, I’m sorry for pushing you."
David (shrugging): "It’s okay. Just don’t do it again."
(The class relaxes as the tension dies down. Ebere nods approvingly.)
Ebere: "Good. Now, let’s start today’s lesson."
Scene 2: A New Challenge
(After handling the issue, Ebere heads to the staffroom to take a break before her next class. As she sips water, Miss Blessing, another primary school teacher, walks over.)
Miss Blessing: "Ebere, the headmistress wants to see you."
Ebere (raising an eyebrow): "Now?"
Miss Blessing (nodding): "Yes, she’s in her office."
(Ebere sighs and quickly gathers her things before heading to the headmistress’s office.)
Scene 3: The Headmistress’s Office
(Ebere knocks and steps in. The headmistress, Mrs. Martins, is sitting behind her desk, looking through some files.)
Mrs. Martins: "Ah, Miss Ebere. Please, have a seat."
(Ebere sits, feeling slightly nervous.)
Mrs. Martins: "I’ve been observing your work over the past week, and I must say, you are handling your classes very well."
Ebere (smiling): "Thank you, ma’am."
Mrs. Martins: "But I have a new challenge for you. Our Year 5 English teacher is going on maternity leave next week. I need you to take over her class in addition to your current Year 3 and Year 4 students."
(Ebere’s eyes widen slightly. More responsibility? She barely just settled in!)
Ebere (carefully): "I’m happy to help, ma’am. But won’t that be a lot of work?"
Mrs. Martins (nodding): "It will be, but I believe you can handle it. If you do well, it will help build your reputation here."
(Ebere thinks for a moment. It’s a challenge, but also an opportunity. She takes a deep breath and nods.)
Ebere: "Alright, ma’am. I’ll do it."
Mrs. Martins (smiling): "Good. You start next Monday. I’ll have Miss Tochi give you the teaching materials you need."
(Ebere stands up, feeling the weight of new responsibilities on her shoulders, but also a sense of excitement.)
Scene 4: Reflecting on the Day
(After school, Ebere walks home, thinking about everything that happened. Handling Jason’s issue, meeting an angry parent, and now getting a new class—everything is happening so fast. But as she reaches her door and steps inside, she smiles to herself.)
Ebere (muttering): "I can do this."
(She locks the door behind her, ready to face whatever comes next.)
