Episode 6 – "The Big Interview"

Episode 6 – "The Big Interview"

Scene 1: Getting Ready for the Big Day

(Monday morning. Ebere wakes up before dawn, nervous but determined. She rummages through her small bag, looking for something appropriate to wear. Finally, she settles on a simple navy blue blouse and a long black skirt. She smooths her hair back and ties it neatly into a bun, making sure she looks as professional as possible.)

(Standing in front of her small mirror, she takes a deep breath.)

Ebere (to herself): "This is it. Just be respectful, talk well, and no pidgin."

(She nods, grabs her small bag, and heads out.)

Scene 2: Arriving at Cherryville Academy

(Ebere walks through the large gates of Cherryville Academy, feeling a mixture of excitement and nerves. She spots Mr. Bami and another man she hasn’t met before, Mr. Seyi, the other Vice Principal.)

Mr. Bami (smiling slightly): "Ebere, good morning. You’re here early."

Ebere (bowing slightly): "Good morning, sir. Yes, sir."

Mr. Seyi (serious tone): "Today is a school day. Miss Gloria, the school owner, is around. Be respectful, speak properly, and act decently. First impressions matter."

Ebere (nodding quickly): "Yes, sir. I understand."

(The two men exchange looks, seemingly satisfied, and gesture for her to follow them inside the school.)

Scene 3: The Interview with Miss Gloria

(Ebere is led into a spacious office with neatly arranged bookshelves, a large wooden desk, and a framed picture of a woman in her fifties with sharp eyes and an elegant posture—Miss Gloria. The woman sits at her desk, reviewing some documents. She looks up as Ebere enters, studying her for a moment before speaking.)

Miss Gloria (calm but firm): "You must be Ebere."

Ebere (standing straight): "Yes, ma’am. Good morning, ma’am."

Miss Gloria (gesturing to a chair): "Sit."

(Ebere sits carefully, hands folded in her lap.)

Miss Gloria: "Mr. Bami and Mr. Jeffery told me about you. You want to work here?"

Ebere: "Yes, ma’am. I want to work and learn. I can take care of children, I can clean, I can assist teachers."

Miss Gloria (raising an eyebrow): "Why do you want to work in a school?"

Ebere (thinking carefully): "Because education is important, ma’am. I finished secondary school, and I know how much teachers helped me. I want to help children too. Even if it is in small ways."

Miss Gloria: "Have you worked with children before?"

Ebere: "Not in a school, ma’am. But I helped take care of my younger cousins. And I also helped in my church children’s class sometimes."

Miss Gloria (nodding slightly): "If a student is disrespectful to you, how will you handle it?"

Ebere (pausing, then speaking carefully): "I will stay calm, ma’am. I will remind them to be respectful. If they do not listen, I will report to a teacher or supervisor."

Miss Gloria: "Good. What if a child is struggling with schoolwork?"

Ebere: "I will encourage them, ma’am. I will tell them they can do it, and if I can help, I will."

(Miss Gloria studies her for a long moment, then leans back in her chair.)

Miss Gloria: "You seem like a good young woman, Ebere. We will give you a trial period as a school assistant. If you do well, we will consider making it permanent."

(Ebere’s heart leaps in excitement, but she keeps her expression calm and respectful.)

Ebere: "Thank you, ma’am. I will do my best."

(Miss Gloria nods, then stands up.)

Miss Gloria: "Come. Let me introduce you to the students."

(Ebere quickly follows her out of the office, feeling a mixture of pride and nervousness.)

Scene 4: Meeting the Students

(Miss Gloria leads Ebere to different classrooms, starting from Year 7 to Year 12. The students glance at her curiously as she enters each room. In Year 7, she meets two students who stand out—Faith and David.)

Miss Gloria (to the class): "Good morning, students. This is Ebere. She will be working here as a school assistant."

(The students murmur among themselves.)

Faith (smiling shyly): "Hello, Miss Ebere!"

Ebere (smiling warmly): "Hello, Faith. And what is your name?"

David (grinning): "My name is David, ma’am."

(Ebere nods, mentally noting their names before moving on.)

(In Year 9, she meets Misan, a boy with glasses who seems quiet but observant.)

Ebere: "Hello, Misan."

Misan (nodding slightly): "Hello, ma’am."

(In Year 11, she meets Andrew, a tall, confident-looking student who leans back in his chair, studying her.)

Andrew (casually): "So, Miss Ebere, what do you do?"

Ebere (firm but friendly): "I am here to help students and teachers, Andrew."

Andrew (smirking): "Hmm. Okay."

(Ebere maintains eye contact, showing confidence but not challenging him. She knows students like Andrew like to test new people, but she won’t be intimidated.)

(After greeting all the students, Miss Gloria turns to Ebere.)

Miss Gloria: "Alright, Ebere. Your work starts today. Let’s see how well you do."

(Ebere nods, taking a deep breath. She knows this is her chance to prove herself.)
