Fast Lane
Episode 1 – “The First Race”
Opening Scene: Meeting the Protagonist
The episode opens in Nigeria, in a bustling secondary school preparing for its Interhouse Sports Day. The camera follows Jayden Thompson, a 10-year-old boy in JSS 1 (Junior Secondary School 1). Jayden is half-Nigerian, half-Jamaican-American, and known for his blazing speed in school. His best friend, Tobi Adewale, walks beside him, both dressed in their sports uniforms, heading towards the 100-meter race event.
Jayden is excited but slightly nervous. Tobi, always the confident one, nudges him.
Tobi: "Omo, today is the day! You ready to show these people how fast you are?"
Jayden: "Bro, I don’t even know. I trained, but these guys… they’re fast."
Tobi: "Ah, forget that! Just run your race. Even if you don’t win, at least don’t come last. That one go shame."
Jayden (laughing): "Abeg, I no fit come last!"
The Race Contestants
The 100m race is divided by houses, with competitors from each house lining up. The school has four houses, each with their own reputation:
Red House – Known for their aggressive competitiveness.
Contestant: Emeka Okafor – The defending champion, a tall, muscular sprinter.
Contestant: Aisha Lawal – A quiet but determined girl who has been training in secret.
Blue House – Famous for their hardworking and resilient athletes.
Contestant: Jayden Thompson – The protagonist, new to Interhouse Sports but full of potential.
Contestant: Tobi Adewale – Jayden’s best friend, confident but not the fastest.
Green House – Known for surprise victories.
Contestant: Femi Olatunji – A cocky sprinter who loves to show off.
Contestant: Chisom Peters – A fierce girl with explosive starts.
Yellow House – The underdogs with a history of upsets.
Contestant: Daniel Edet – A quiet but skilled runner, seen as a dark horse.
Contestant: Hannah Obi – A tall, slender sprinter with long strides.
Pre-Race Tension
As they step onto the track, the runners remove their shoes, flexing their feet on the warm track surface. Some of them clap their hands, jump up and down, or stretch aggressively.
Tobi (smirking at Femi): "Guy, you go fall down today."
Femi (laughs): "Keep talking. I’ll be waiting for you at the finish line."
Jayden (muttering to himself): "Just run. Just run."
Nearby, the housemaster of Red House, Mr. Balogun, a short but loud man with a deep voice, yells at Emeka.
Mr. Balogun: "Emeka! You better bring that gold to Red House! No excuses!"
Emeka (grinning): "Oga, no wahala. I got this!"
The other housemasters are also hyping their runners, making the competition even more intense.
The Race Begins
The announcer steps up with a microphone.
Announcer: "100 meters, JSS 1 boys and girls. Runners, on your marks!"
The crowd grows silent. The athletes step onto the starting blocks. Jayden’s heart pounds in his chest.
Announcer: "Set!"
Everyone leans forward.
Announcer: "Go!"
The race explodes with movement.
Emeka and Femi take an early lead, their legs pumping like machines.
Chisom surprises everyone with a powerful start, keeping up with the boys.
Jayden is in the middle of the pack, but he pushes forward.
Tobi struggles, but he’s fighting to keep up.
Hannah is right behind Jayden, keeping a strong pace.
Mid-Race Conversation (In Their Heads)
Jayden (thinking): "I need to push harder… but my legs… they’re burning!"
Emeka (thinking): "No way I’m losing this!"
Chisom (thinking): "I can actually win this!"
Femi (gritting his teeth): "Nah, not today!"
The crowd is screaming. The finish line is approaching.
The Final Stretch
Jayden pushes harder, overtaking Femi, but Emeka and Chisom are too far ahead. He can see the finish line, but—
BOOM!
Emeka crosses first.
Chisom (the fastest girl in the race) shocks everyone by finishing second.
Jayden barely grabs third place, just ahead of Femi.
Post-Race Moments
The runners collapse to the ground, breathing heavily. Jayden looks disappointed but also proud. Tobi stumbles to his side, panting.
Tobi (gasping): "Omo… you… you got third?!"
Jayden (smiling weakly): "Yeah, bro. I did it."
Meanwhile, Mr. Balogun is celebrating with Emeka, lifting the Red House trophy high.
Mr. Balogun: "Red House! We are champions!"
Chisom, the surprise runner-up, is surrounded by Green House teammates, celebrating her amazing run.
Jayden’s coach pats him on the back.
Coach: "Third place on your first try? Not bad, kid. But next time… aim higher."
Jayden looks back at the finish line, determination in his eyes.
Jayden (thinking): "This is just the beginning. Next time… I’m going for gold."
Episode Ends.
