Jimin had always believed that bad luck came in waves.
First, there was the coffee disaster that led to his unexpected (and now wildly misunderstood) connection with Min Yoongi. Then came the study group chaos, where Yoongi had been bullied into tolerating him.
And now?
Now, Jimin was staring at the board in class, where their professor had just announced the new project groups.
His eyes scanned the list, and when he finally found his name, his stomach dropped.
Park Jimin – Min Yoongi
Jimin’s soul left his body.
“No. Nope. Absolutely not,” he muttered under his breath, shaking his head in denial.
Next to him, Taehyung gasped dramatically. “Oh my god.”
Jimin turned to him, panicked. “This is a nightmare.”
Taehyung, meanwhile, looked delighted. “No, Jimin. This is destiny.”
Jimin groaned, banging his head lightly against the desk. “How does this keep happening? First the coffee, then the rumors, then the study group, and now this?”
Taehyung nudged him excitedly. “Maybe the universe is trying to tell you something.”
Jimin snapped his head up. “Yeah. It’s telling me I’m cursed.”
Before Taehyung could say anything else, the professor clapped her hands. “Alright, everyone! Find your partners and start discussing ideas.”
Jimin swallowed nervously, slowly turning his head to where Yoongi was sitting.
Yoongi, as expected, looked just as unamused as Jimin felt.
Their eyes met.
Jimin pouted.
Yoongi sighed.
—
A few minutes later, Jimin sat down across from Yoongi at one of the library tables.
Yoongi set his notebook down, looking completely indifferent. “Let’s just get this over with.”
Jimin folded his arms. “Wow. Not even a hello? You’re so charming, kitty.”
Yoongi didn’t even blink. “Stop calling me that.”
Jimin grinned. “Nope.”
Yoongi sighed and opened his notebook. “So, what’s the project?”
Jimin looked at his own assignment sheet. “We have to combine art and music to create a performance piece.”
Yoongi nodded. “Fine. Let’s pick an emotion to focus on.”
Jimin tapped his chin thoughtfully. “What about… longing? Something soft but bittersweet?”
Yoongi jotted something down. “I can compose a piece with a melancholic piano base, maybe add strings for depth.”
Jimin’s eyes lit up. “That sounds perfect! And I could paint something abstract—like fading memories.”
For the first time, Yoongi actually looked up with interest. “That could work.”
Jimin smirked. “Wow. Was that almost a compliment?”
Yoongi ignored him. “We should set a schedule.”
Jimin pouted. “You’re no fun.”
Yoongi took a sip of his black coffee. “And yet, you’re still here.”
Jimin laughed, resting his chin in his hands. “Because, deep down, you like working with me.”
Yoongi gave him a long, tired stare. “I regret everything.”
—
The next day, Jimin and Yoongi met in the music room to start their project.
Jimin arrived five minutes late, holding an iced caramel latte. Yoongi was already there, sitting at the piano, clearly judging him.
“You’re late,” Yoongi said flatly.
Jimin took a long, dramatic sip. “Good morning to you too, kitty.”
Yoongi rubbed his temples. “One of these days, I’m going to lock you out.”
Jimin grinned. “You wouldn’t dare. You love my company.”
Yoongi muttered something under his breath but didn’t argue. Instead, he played a soft melody on the piano.
Jimin’s eyes widened. “Wait. Is that the piece for our project?”
Yoongi nodded. “I started working on it last night.”
Jimin felt a strange warmth in his chest. Yoongi had actually put effort into this—into their project together.
“Wow,” Jimin said softly. “It’s… beautiful.”
Yoongi shrugged, looking away. “It’s not finished yet.”
Jimin watched him for a moment before suddenly grinning.
“You know,” he said, leaning against the piano, “I think you do like working with me.”
Yoongi didn’t look at him, but the tips of his ears turned pink.
“Shut up, mochi,” he muttered.
Jimin gasped loudly. “Oh my god! Did you just—”
Yoongi immediately grabbed his coffee and took a sip, pretending he hadn’t said anything.
Jimin, delighted, clapped his hands. “You called me mochi! You’re finally admitting it—I’m adorable.”
Yoongi sighed. “I take it back.”
Jimin bounced excitedly. “Too late. It’s canon now.”
Yoongi groaned. “I really should’ve spilled my coffee on someone else that day.”
Jimin giggled, resting his head on his arms. Maybe, just maybe, this project wouldn’t be so bad after all
