Jace’s jaw tightened. Whatever it was, it didn’t sound like mere bandits.
"We'll investigate," Jace assured him. "Stay inside at night, and keep your doors locked."
Into the Unknown
Night fell over Dravonfall, casting long shadows across the narrow streets. Jace and Nick moved cautiously through the outer districts, where the reports had been most frequent.
"You feel it?" Jace murmured, his steel energy prickling against his skin.
Nick nodded. "Something's here."
A sudden chill swept through the air. Dark figures shifted in the distance, their forms barely visible in the dim light. Jace's hands tensed, the steel within him stirring..
Jace:
"Who are you?"
The shadowy figure stepped forward, her white armor gleaming with an ethereal glow. Her white hair cascaded down like a waterfall, and she wielded a massive claymore, holding it with an elegance that was almost divine.
Shadowy Figure:
"A human has the audacity to question me?"
Before Jace could respond, Nick quickly stepped forward, his voice calm but firm.
Nick:
"Sorry for my friend's rudeness. My name is Nick, and this is Jace. We’re adventurers."
Shadowy Figure:
"You seem like a well-mannered person."
Nick:
"Thank you. You see, we’re here to investigate the quest for the missing person."
The figure’s eyes darkened as she threw something in front of them—a severed head, unmistakably that of a vampire.
Shadowy Figure:
"This is your culprit. He was causing trouble in the name of the Yakshas. I put him out of his misery."
Nick:
"But how? A vampire is a B-rank monster. Some of them are even powerful enough to be classified as A-rank."
Shadowy Figure:
"You must be talking about the noble bloodline of vampires. Don’t worry, they’re quite few in number now."
Jace’s hand went instinctively to his sword, and pointing it at the figure.
Jace:
"Enough of this. Tell us your name."
In an instant, the shadowy figure moved like lightning. She pressed the massive claymore to Jace’s neck, her voice cold as ice.
Shadowy Figure:
"Tell me, where did you find that sword? And who are you?"
Jace:
"I bought it from a weapon store."
The figure’s grip tightened, her voice filled with disbelief.
Shadowy Figure:
"How can this be possible? No one can wield that sword except him."
Jace:
"You know about this sword?"
She ignored his question entirely, her gaze colder than the blade she held against his throat.
Shadowy Figure:
"Your name is Jace, right? I don’t know how Nightlily chose you as its master, but he will return soon and That blade only answers to him , until then hold it for us."
With a final, piercing look, the figure turned away, her form vanishing into the sky with the speed of a fallen star.
Jace:
"Who was she?"
Nick:
"I don’t know... but she sure looked like she came from heaven."
Jace exhaled sharply, the tension leaving his body as he sheathed Nightlily.
Jace:
"At least our mission’s solved."
In his mind, he couldn’t shake the thought: Whoever she is, she has something to do with the Yakshas.
Jace:
"Hey, Nick... we can’t tell the guild about this, okay?"
Nick:
"Yeah, I understand."
