#5 THE ALPHA'S CLAIM: A NEW DUTY

A sharp rap echoed through the hallway. "Come in," Cain's voice, crisp and commanding, cut through the silence. Jay swallowed, his heart hammering against his ribs. He took a deep breath and entered, his gaze fixed on the imposing figure behind the large mahogany desk.

"You're here," Cain stated, his tone devoid of any emotion.

"Yes, sir," Jay replied, his voice barely a whisper. "So, what will I be doing while I'm staying here, sir?"

Cain leaned back in his chair, his expression unreadable. "I want you to be my personal bodyguard."

Jay's eyes widened. "But sir, I have no experience. I'm still a trainee."

Cain's lips curled into a slight smirk. "So what? I want you as my bodyguard, so you will obey me. I am your boss, remember?"

Jay nodded, his mind struggling to process the sudden shift in his life. "Yes, sir."

"Let's go," Cain said, rising from his chair.

"Where, sir?" Jay asked, his voice betraying his nervousness.

"To XXX Company. I have a meeting there. We're going now."

The meeting at XXX Company was a whirlwind of formal handshakes, polite smiles, and complex business discussions. Two hours later, the CEO concluded the meeting. "That's all for today," he announced. "Good job, everyone, and thank you for accepting our proposal, Mr. Davis."

Cain responded graciously, "No, I should be thanking you. You have an amazing employee; her proposal was clear and concise, and I believe it will greatly benefit both our companies in the future."

The employee, blushing furiously, mumbled her thanks. Cain smiled, a rare and captivating sight that sent a ripple of excitement through the room.

The return trip to Cain's company was less formal. The usual chorus of "Good afternoon, sir" greeted them as they entered the building. A group of female employees, their eyes alight with curiosity, watched as they passed.

"Hey, who's that following Sir Cain?" one of them whispered.

"Who?" another replied.

The first girl pointed at Jay. "Him!"

"Oh my god," the third girl breathed, "he's so handsome!"

"Right?" the first girl agreed. "I want to know his name."

Cain, overhearing their conversation, answered smoothly, "Jay."

Jay, feeling the weight of all eyes on him, added, "Yes, sir." He then turned to Cain, "Sir, could you get me some coffee? My secretary is out, and my assistant is busy, so you're the only one I can ask."

Cain nodded, "Okay."

"So his name is Jay," the first girl whispered, her eyes sparkling with interest.

Jay, tasked with fetching Cain's coffee, found himself approached by one of the girls.

"Hi," she said, a friendly smile on her face.

"Hello," Jay replied, trying to appear calm despite his inner turmoil.

"Are you new here?" she asked.

"No," Jay replied, "I'm Mr. Davis's bodyguard."

The girl's eyebrows rose. "If you're a bodyguard, why are you making coffee for Sir Cain? A bodyguard's job is to protect their boss, right?"

Jay sighed inwardly. "Yes, a bodyguard's job is to protect their boss, but that doesn't mean they won't follow their boss's orders. If you'll excuse me, I need to take this coffee to his office now."

Jay left the girl standing there, a mixture of confusion and intrigue on her face. "Huh?" she murmured to herself.

Another knock echoed through the hallway. "Come in," Cain's voice called.

"Sir, I brought your coffee," Jay announced, entering the office.

"Put it on my table," Cain instructed.

Jay placed the coffee down. "Sir, where should I wait? Should I wait outside your office?"

Cain gestured to the couch. "No, wait here. Just sit on the couch."

"Okay, sir," Jay said, relief washing over him as he settled onto the comfortable cushions, the weight of his new, unexpected role settling upon him.
