Kai threw his phone onto the bed and covered his face with his hands. Why was his entire family like this?!
Just as he was trying to erase the mental image of his mom proudly declaring herself a “past-life grandma,” his phone buzzed.
Mom: Wait, did I have cool grandma powers? Like, could I breathe fire or something?
Kai groaned. Nope. Not dealing with this. He shoved his phone under his pillow.
Just then, his bedroom door burst open. His sister stood there, arms crossed, a smug grin on her face.
“So? What did Mom say?”
Kai glared at her. “That you’re both annoying.”
She plopped down on his bed. “So, did she tell you to accept your fated bakery romance and run into Vallentino’s arms?”
Kai dramatically flopped back onto the bed. “Why is everyone acting like this is some cute romance? A guy basically hijacked my life with his nonsense, and you’re all like, ‘Ooooh, love story!’”
His sister gasped. “Hijacked your life?! Kai, a hot man basically claimed you as his soulmate! Do you know how many people would KILL for that?”
Kai sat up. “Do YOU know how many red flags that raises?”
She shrugged. “Maybe. But that doesn’t mean it’s not romantic.”
Kai opened his mouth to argue—then groaned, pulling his blanket over his head.
His sister patted his back through the blanket. “You’ll see, Kai. Fate is on your side. And so is Vallentino.”
Kai peeked out. “Okay, but what if fate is stupid?”
She smirked. “Then at least it gave you a hot husband.”
Kai shoved a pillow in her face.
"Mom" Kai say. "Is your name Anna"
Kai's fingers trembled as he stared at the empty space where his mother had been just moments ago. One second, she was talking to him on the phone, and the next—she had vanished into thin air.
His breath hitched when his phone vibrated, and a green notification appeared on the screen:
✅ Yeah! You found Anna! Keep looking, and you’ll find everyone you interacted with.
Kai’s brain short-circuited. He read the message once. Twice. A third time. His mind struggled to process what had just happened.
“EXCUSE ME?!” he blurted out, his voice echoing through the room.
His sister, who had been lounging on his bed scrolling through her phone, barely glanced up. “Why are you screaming now?”
Kai practically shoved the phone in her face. “MOM JUST VANISHED! LOOK!”
She took one look at the screen, then raised an eyebrow. “So… you’re collecting people now?”
Kai groaned, gripping his hair in frustration. “THIS ISN’T FUNNY! What if I find someone and they explode instead of disappearing?!”
His sister shrugged, completely unbothered. “Well, you won’t know unless you try.”
Kai threw himself onto his bed, gripping his pillow. “I swear, I’m living in a messed-up video game.”
His sister smirked. “More like an otome game where you gotta collect love interests, but instead, you’re collecting random people from your past.”
Kai groaned louder. If this was some kind of cosmic joke, he wasn’t laughing.
