Sophia’s heart raced in her chest, the cold air of the abandoned building biting at her skin. Sophia took a step forward, instinctively moving closer to Damian. He was her protector, but in this moment, she knew it was up to her as well. She couldn’t just stand by while Viktor threatened everything she cared about. Her hands shook, not from fear, but from the adrenaline that was coursing through her veins. She had to be brave.

“You’re wrong, Viktor,” she said, her voice stronger than she felt. “I’m not part of your world. I never will be.”

Viktor chuckled darkly. “Oh, but you will be, my dear. It’s in your blood. The sooner you accept that, the better it will be for you.”

Sophia’s thoughts were swirling. She wanted to fight, to take back control of her life, but there was so much she still didn’t understand. What had Viktor meant when he said it was in her blood? Was it true? Was she somehow connected to vampires in a way that she didn’t yet realize?

Damian placed a hand on her shoulder, his grip gentle but firm. “Stay close to me,” he said, his voice low. “You’re stronger than you

Damian’s jaw tightened, and Sophia could see the flash of pain in his eyes. It was clear that he didn’t want to fight, but he had no choice. “I’ll never let you take her,” he said, his voice steady.
