Ch 14 : A Deal with Fate

[Present Day – Taehyung’s Apartment]

The air between them was thick with unspoken words.

Jungkook's grip on Taehyung’s wrist tightened as if afraid he would disappear. "Tell me how to change this," he demanded.

Taehyung sighed, his eyes unreadable. "It's not that simple, Jungkook."

"Then make it simple," Jungkook shot back. "You think I can just accept that we're meant to suffer in every lifetime? That I'll keep losing you?"

Taehyung’s lips parted slightly, but no words came out.

Because he knew Jungkook.

Knew that the more he tried to push him away, the harder Jungkook would fight.

"You want to defy fate?" Taehyung finally said, his voice softer now. "Then you have to be willing to pay the price."

Jungkook didn’t flinch. "I don't care what it takes."

Taehyung studied him for a long moment. Then, with a quiet breath, he said, "There's one way."

Jungkook’s heartbeat quickened. "Tell me."

Taehyung hesitated. Then, finally, he whispered, "We have to find the one who cursed us."

Jungkook’s brows furrowed. "Cursed?"

Taehyung nodded. "You think this is just fate?" He let out a bitter laugh. "No, Jungkook. We were bound together by something far worse."

Jungkook’s mind raced. "Then who did this to us?"

Taehyung’s expression darkened. "Someone who wanted us to suffer."

Candles flickered against the stone walls, casting eerie shadows across the room.

Taehyung knelt before the hooded figure, his hands clenched into fists.

"Please," he whispered. "Take it back."

The figure chuckled, a sound that sent chills down Taehyung’s spine. "And why would I do that?"

Taehyung’s voice trembled. "Because I don’t want him to kill me again."

The figure leaned closer. "And yet, he always does."

Taehyung bit his lip. "Tell me how to stop it."

The figure hummed in amusement. "There is only one way."

Taehyung’s breath caught. "How?"

The figure’s smile was cruel. "One of you must die… permanently."

[Present Day – Jungkook’s Apartment]

Jungkook’s entire body stiffened. "You mean… one of us has to die to break the curse?"

Taehyung didn’t answer.

But his silence was enough.

Jungkook took a step back, shaking his head. "No. There has to be another way."

Taehyung’s voice was quiet. "There isn't."

Jungkook’s hands trembled. "I just found you again. I'm not losing you."

Taehyung smiled, sad and knowing. "You say that every time."

Jungkook clenched his jaw. "Then I'll find another way. I'll change this—"

Taehyung reached out, gently brushing his fingers against Jungkook’s cheek. "If anyone can, it's you."

Jungkook covered Taehyung’s hand with his own, pressing their foreheads together. "Then help me."

Taehyung closed his eyes. "I always do."

Jungkook exhaled shakily. "Then let’s find whoever did this and end it."

Taehyung’s lips curled into a small smile. "Be careful what you wish for, Jungkook."

Because once they started down this path—

There would be no turning back.
