Ch 6 : A Thread That Never Breaks

[Present Day – University Campus]

Taehyung was drowning.

Not in water. Not in pain. But in the weight of memories that wouldn’t leave him alone.

Every step he took on campus, every glance Jungkook threw his way, every accidental touch—they were reminders. Echoes of the past he had spent lifetimes trying to forget.

He should have been used to it by now.

But the thing about grief was that it never faded. It only became heavier, pressing down until it was unbearable.

And Jungkook—he was the weight Taehyung could never let go of.

So when he found himself standing in front of Jungkook’s dorm, heart hammering against his ribs, he already knew he had lost this battle.

“Why are you here?”

Jungkook’s voice was rough with sleep as he leaned against the doorframe, messy-haired and shirtless. Taehyung’s resolve almost shattered on the spot.

“I don’t know.” It was a lie. A pathetic one.

Jungkook studied him for a moment, then stepped aside. “Come in.”

Taehyung hesitated. He shouldn’t. He really, really shouldn’t.

But he did.

\[Past Life – A Moonlit Balcony\]

The wind was cool against Taehyung’s skin as he stood at the balcony, staring at the stars. The celebration in the ballroom was still loud behind him, but he needed air.

He wasn’t alone for long.

“You always run from me.”

Taehyung closed his eyes briefly before turning around. Jungkook stood there, dressed in royal attire, golden embroidery shimmering in the moonlight.

“I don’t run,” Taehyung murmured. “I just… leave.”

Jungkook huffed a quiet laugh, stepping closer. “And yet, I always find you.”

Taehyung swallowed. “You shouldn’t.”

Jungkook’s fingers brushed against his. Just a touch. Barely there. But it burned.

“I think I was meant to.”

Taehyung exhaled shakily. “We are from different worlds.”

Jungkook tilted his head. “Then let’s create our own.”

If only it were that easy.

[Present Day – Jungkook’s Dorm]

Jungkook handed Taehyung a glass of water before sitting across from him on the bed. He didn’t ask why Taehyung was there. Didn’t push. Just waited.

And somehow, that made it worse.

Because Taehyung wanted to tell him everything. The lives they had lived, the deaths they had suffered, the love that was always left unfinished.

But Jungkook wouldn’t believe him.

Not yet.

Maybe not ever.

So instead, Taehyung sighed and murmured, “Do you believe in fate?”

Jungkook’s brows furrowed slightly. “Fate?”

Taehyung nodded. “Like… some people are meant to meet. No matter what.”

Jungkook leaned back, watching him with unreadable eyes. “I don’t know.” He paused. “But I do know that I feel like I’ve met you before.”

Taehyung’s fingers tightened around the glass.

There it was again. The same feeling. The same pull.

Fate was cruel.

And Taehyung was a fool.

Because he already knew—he was going to fall in love with Jungkook again.

Even if it killed him.
