My close friend is celebrating her birthday. "Happy Birthday," I said.

"Thank you,"she replied.

I handed her my birthday gift. Then I sat beside my close friend.

An hour passed.

” Bri, can you take a photo of us?" the birthday celebrant asked.

I said sure and took out my digital camera, since I had brought it. I also asked someone to take a picture with my iPhone so that we would have more photos to choose from later on.

"One, two, three, smile!" I said as I clicked my camera.

"I saw him. His smile brightened, but his eyes were on me. Of course, since I was holding the camera! When I finished taking a picture of them, I sat back because I couldn't handle keeping staring at him. It had been a while since then - three months ago.

'Knox? Can I ask you a favor?'

'What is it?' He looked at me with a questionable look.

"Can you be my fake boyfriend for a while?"

"I—I just want him to focus on studying and on himself," I said.

I looked at her and didn't say anything. You don't know anything. I couldn't hate her. Her words hurt me. They pained me. She's my close friend, but she let herself say something hurtful to me because of what I did to her friend. But I'm her friend too? It's okay, Bri! It's okay.

I just gave her a fading smile.

When Knox arrived,

"Happy birthday, Sanya!" He greeted her and gave her a gift.

"Thanks!"

"Let's drink!" Cedric said.

Knox walked in, sat beside me, and took a glass to drink.

"Knox, stop it!" I said.

"Don't worry, Jade will be driving! Please be calm," Knox said, laughing.

"Let's go, please?" I begged.

"Bri, you're going to sleep at Knox's condo tonight? Then Knox will have a chance to...Hahahaaha!" One of my close friends said. I saw Sanya laugh at them. I didn't bother to look around anymore. I knew he was somewhere in the corner. Shit! I felt like crying!

"Are you really her close friend?" Knox asked. I was shocked by his words.

"I thought you really knew her! But I think you don't know everything about her! Yes, we recently became really close! She goes to my condo, but she just cooks for us. Even if she stay late at night, she'll still go home! She'll risk her life on the road rather than stay with me in my condo! And besides, Bri deserves respect from all of you! If you think she's dirty because she's with me, you really disappoint her! Bri doesn't deserve this treatment! I've seen Bri take care of all of you! But this is how you repay her? I saw Sanya was shocked by his words. I saw the sadness and worry in her eyes, thankfully, some of the visitors were no longer there, it was just us, our circle of friends.

"I'm not drunk! It was just water that I drank. Besides, Bri will tell Leah that I'm drunk!" Knox said, standing up.

"Sorry, Sanya," I said.

"Bri!" Sanya said, approaching me. "Sorry, I was just overwhelmed by my emotions, and you know he's a good friend of mine."

I looked around and saw him. Our eyes met. I realized I had hurt the purest person in this world, someone I could never meet again in this lifetime.

I looked at Sanya. "I am your friend too, Sanya," I said and walked away.

In the car, I said, "Ackkk, Knox! What should I do next time? How can I face him after what you did?"

Knox burst out laughing. "Whahaha! Look at your face! Duh?! And just be thankful I said it! Because you know what friends are really for," Knox said.
