Julian did not say anything.
Sunny held his arm tenderly. “Don’t blame yourself, Julian. It wasn’t your fault. You didn’t know she was pregnant, and you didn’t mean to push her. Besides, her grandmother was old. It was a matter of time before she died. It has nothing to do with you.” Julian shook her hand off his arm, his gaze exceedingly cold.
Sunny was taken aback by the ruthlessness in his eyes, but she still forced a smile. “Why are you looking at me like that, Julian?”
Julian asked coldly, “Did the dog run away by itself? Or did you let it out?”
Sunny blinked at him innocently. “Are you saying I let Dodo out on purpose so you would help me look for it?”
Julian did not answer her question. He just said coolly, “Let’s never meet again.”
Sunny burst into tears. “What do you mean? We’ve known each other for such a long time! You know I wouldn’t do anything like that!”
Julian gave her a long look. “You’ve had that dog for ages. Why did you lose it right before my wedding?”
Sunny panicked. She wanted to explain, but Julian had no patience to hear her out. When he turned to leave, Sunny hugged him from behind.
“Are you leaving me, Julian? Don’t leave me! I missed you every day since we broke up. I would’ve fallen part long ago if I didn’t have Dodo! Please, can we get back together?”
Julian frowned. “I’m married.”
Sunny broke down, screaming, “But you got divorced!”
Julian peeled her arms off him, his tone resolute. “We will get remarried.”
Sunny stared at his back as he walked off. As he faded from view, she crouched to the ground and wept bitterly.
I crossed my arms in front of my chest, looking at her ironically. “You shouldn’t cry openly like that, Miss Waters. Your makeup is a mess.”
Sunny leaped to her feet, glaring at me. “Get off your high horse, Molly Shane. He loves me. You’re nothing to him!”
I said casually, “If my ears didn’t deceive me, you asked to get back together, but he refused. You sure are shameless! Still, I don’t need trash like him. He suits you better.”
Sunny was furious. Just as she was about to explode at me, however, she saw Julian turning back. Her expression instantly turned to one of hurt, and she held her face pitifully. “Julian, I was just trying to console Miss Shane and cheer her up. I didn’t expect her to hit me…”
Sunny cried as though I had actually slapped her. I narrowed my eyes and did as she wished, slapping her across the face before saying with a smile, “There, now I really did hit you. Just as you said.”
She was stunned, biting her lip as though holding back the pain. She then turned to look at Julian, pitifully waiting for him to defend her.
She used to accuse me of hurting her like this all the time, and Julian would rebuke me every time, forcing me to apologize to her. Each time, I gave in and apologized to appease his temper.
Now that I thought about it, I truly was a fool for giving in.
Julian walked up to me, looking at me without blinking. My lips curved, and I said, “What? Do you want to slap me to get back at me for her?”
The next second, he picked me up in a bridal carry. “You shouldn’t be walking around yet. Stay in bed and get some rest.”
Sunny could not believe her eyes, but Julian did not even spare her a glance.
I struggled to get out of his embrace, but he was stronger than me to begin with, and my body was weak after the miscarriage. I could not stop him from taking me back into the room and putting me back into my bed.
“What is the meaning of this, Julian Long?”
