Chapter 4: VIP PATIENT
10:30 AM | CEO’s Office
Xiao Zhan walked down the quiet executive hallway, his white coat flowing behind him. He had been summoned without explanation, but he had a feeling it had something to do with his latest patient.
He knocked on the large glass door.
“Come in,” a deep, authoritative voice responded.
Xiao Zhan stepped inside to see Jiang Cheng, the CEO of the hospital, seated at his desk. At 38, Jiang Cheng was a commanding figure—sharp-dressed, highly disciplined, and known for his strict, no-nonsense approach. His eyes, dark and piercing, locked onto Xiao Zhan with a calculating gaze.
“Dr. Xiao,” Jiang Cheng greeted, folding his hands on the desk. “Take a seat.”
Xiao Zhan sat down, keeping his posture straight. “You asked for me, Sir?”
Jiang Cheng didn’t waste time with pleasantries. “This is about Wang Yibo.”
Xiao Zhan’s jaw tightened slightly. As expected.
Jiang Cheng leaned forward. “The military has given strict orders that only you are to handle his case. No other doctors will be assigned to him.”
Xiao Zhan frowned. “Only me?”
“Yes.” Jiang Cheng’s tone was firm. “You are responsible for every aspect of his treatment—medication, check-ups, recovery plans. Everything.”
Xiao Zhan’s fingers curled slightly. “With all due respect, Sir, that’s highly unusual.”
Jiang Cheng’s expression didn’t change. “So is Wang Yibo.”
Silence.
Jiang Cheng exhaled, tapping a file on his desk. “Look, I don’t care what personal secrets the military is hiding, and neither should you. Our job is to provide medical care—nothing more.”
Xiao Zhan held his gaze. “And if I refuse?”
Jiang Cheng let out a low chuckle, though it lacked humor. “You won’t.”
There was an unspoken message in those words. This wasn’t a request—it was an order.
Xiao Zhan inhaled slowly before nodding. “…Understood.”
Jiang Cheng nodded back, satisfied. “Good. Do your job, keep your head down, and don’t get involved in things that don’t concern you.”
Xiao Zhan stood up. “If that’s all, I’ll return to my duties.”
As he reached the door, Jiang Cheng’s voice stopped him.
“One more thing, Dr. Xiao.”
Xiao Zhan turned.
Jiang Cheng’s eyes narrowed slightly. “Watch yourself.”

11:00 AM | VIP Ward
The moment Xiao Zhan stepped back into the VIP ward, Wen Qing was already waiting for him near the nurses’ station, arms crossed.
Xiao Zhan exhaled. “You don’t miss anything, do you?”
Wen Qing smirked. “I don’t have to. The tension is written all over your face.”
She tilted her head. “So? What was it about?”
Xiao Zhan hesitated for a second. Then, in a quieter voice, he said, “…They want me to handle Wang Yibo’s case alone. No one else.”
Her smirk faded. “Just you?”
“Yes.”
Wen Qing’s expression turned serious. “That’s not normal, Xiao Zhan.”
“I know.” I should go check on him now it's time for his medicine.
"sure" now that you're stuck with your "one and only patient" I am going to get busy.
"l am always here to help you out'' xion zhan said while giving a warm smile.

After stabilizing overnight, Wang Yibo had been moved to a private VIP room while Xion Zhan was with CEO. It wasn’t unusual for military patients to be under special care, but this level of restricted access was uncommon.
11:30 AM | Wang Yibo Room
Wang Yibo stared at the ceiling, his expression unreadable. The sterile scent of the hospital lingered in the air, a stark reminder that he was trapped here until further notice. He hated hospitals. Hated waiting.
The door opened, and Zhou Zishu stepped inside. Dressed in casual clothes, he still carried the sharp presence of a soldier—always observant, always calculating.
Zishu smirked. “I see you’re still alive. Barely.”
Yibo scoffed. “Disappointed?”
Zishu sat down beside the bed, resting his arm on the chair’s back. “Nah, but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t curious. I pulled some strings, asked around—and guess what I found?”
Yibo gave him a side glance but said nothing.
Zishu leaned in slightly. “Someone high up ordered that only one doctor is allowed to handle your case. Xiao Zhan.” He studied Yibo’s face carefully. “I don’t believe in coincidences.”
Yibo remained silent.
Zishu narrowed his eyes. “So, are you gonna tell me why the hell you handpicked this guy, or do I have to dig deeper?”
Yibo sighed, tilting his head back. “You think too much.”
Zishu smirked. “And you avoid too much.”
A heavy silence followed.
Then, quietly, Yibo muttered, “I met him once.”
Zishu sat up straight. “When?”
A pause. Then—“Years ago.”
Zishu’s smirk faded. “And?”
Yibo’s jaw clenched slightly. “It’s not important.”
Zishu studied him for a moment before leaning back with a sigh. “You’re impossible.”
The door suddenly opened again.
Xiao Zhan stepped in.
His sharp gaze flickered between the two men, sensing the tension. “Am I interrupting something?”
Zishu stood up, stretching. “Not at all, Doc. Just trying to make our dear soldier here spill some secrets.”
Xiao Zhan glanced at Yibo, who remained silent.
Something about that silence made Xiao Zhan… curious.
Zishu patted Yibo’s shoulder. “I’ll leave you two to it.” As he passed Xiao Zhan, he muttered, “Good luck with this stubborn guy.”
Xiao Zhan almost smiled.
Almost.
Turning back to Wang Yibo, their eyes met in a quiet, charged moment.
