Blessing’s Nerves

Blessing paced back and forth in front of the cafeteria, trying to gather courage.

"I fit do this," she whispered to herself. "No be small pikin again."

Gift and Amaka watched from a nearby table, smirking.

"You go fit? You don dey here since 20 minutes," Gift teased.

"If you no go tell am, I go help you," Amaka threatened playfully.

Blessing took a deep breath, adjusted her dress, and walked towards Farouk, who was sitting alone, eating jollof rice.

The Confession

"Farouk… can I talk to you?" Blessing asked nervously.

He looked up, surprised.

"Of course. Sit."

She hesitated, then sat down.

"See ehn, I no sabi how to talk am, but… I like you."

Farouk blinked.

"Like me?"

Blessing nodded, avoiding his eyes.

"Yes. I don dey like you for some time now, and I just say make I talk."

Farouk stared at her for a moment, then chuckled.

"Wow. I no expect this."

"You dey laugh?" Blessing frowned.

"No, no be like that," Farouk said quickly. "I just… I appreciate your honesty."

Blessing felt her heart pounding. "So… what do you think?"

Farouk paused, looking thoughtful.

"Blessing, you be nice girl, but I never really think about you that way."

Blessing felt her heart sink.

"Oh."

"But I no go lie, you be amazing person. I just need time to think."

Blessing forced a smile. "Okay… I understand."

She quickly stood up before her emotions betrayed her and walked away.

Farouk watched her leave, sighing.

Farouk Tells Amina

Later that evening, Farouk found Amina at the hostel, scrolling through her phone.

"Amina, I get gist for you."

She looked up. "Wetin?"

"Blessing tell me say she like me."

Amina sat up immediately.

"Ehn?! For real?"

"Yes. She serious."

Amina grinned.

"Blessing na correct babe oo. You wan gree?"

Farouk sighed.

"I no sure yet. I no want play with her feelings."

Amina nodded.

"Just make sure you no break her heart. She be my friend."

Farouk smiled.

"I go think am well."

Amaka’s phone buzzed. She glanced at the screen and almost dropped it.

"What happened?" Amina asked.

"My parents just sent me two million naira."

The entire group went silent.

"Two what?" Blessing gasped.

"Two million," Amaka repeated. "Just like that."

Before anyone could react, Daniel’s message popped up in the group chat.

Daniel: "Guys, I sent 800K. Please, forgive me."

Ebere rolled her eyes but didn't complain.

"So, we are rich now," Gift said, laughing.

"No be lie. Time to upgrade," Amina grinned.

Shopping Spree

The group headed to a phone shop downtown. They knew they couldn’t afford the most expensive gadgets, but they could at least get something decent.

Ebere: iPhone 12 Pro Max (she insisted on getting an iPhone, even though it was second-hand)

Ebere, feeling rich, added a pink AirPods case and a designer phone case.

"Money good oo," Amaka said as they left the store with their new gadgets.

"Daniel try small," Blessing admitted, checking her phone.

"Him try, but e no mean say we go forget everything," Ebere muttered.

The group headed home, excited to set up their new devices.
