Jake wasn't just smooth-he was effortlessly charming, the kind of guy who could walk into a room and have everyone laughing within minutes. But he wasn't about games. When he met Emma, he knew she wasn't just another girl to flirt with-she was the girl.
They met at a coffee shop, where she was buried in a book, completely oblivious to the world. Jake walked up, leaning slightly over the table.
"Are you WiFi? Because I'm really feeling a connection."
Emma glanced up, unimpressed. "Really? That's your opening line?"
Jake grinned, unfazed. "Would you prefer, 'Are you French? Because Eiffel for you'?"
A small smirk tugged at her lips, but she quickly buried it behind her book. "You really think that works on people?"
"Well," Jake said, sliding into the seat across from her, "I was going to flirt with you, but when you smiled at me, you did all the work."
Emma rolled her eyes but couldn't help the slight warmth creeping up her neck. "You're relentless."
"Some call it relentless. I call it determination," he said smoothly. "But, you know, I'd say God bless you, but it looks like He already did."
Emma let out a short laugh before shaking her head. "You're impossible."
Jake leaned forward. "I don't need a map because I keep getting lost in your eyes."
She blinked, momentarily caught off guard, but quickly recovered. "Okay, that one was kinda good."
"Just kinda?" Jake put a hand to his chest in mock offense. "Ouch. I was hoping for mind-blowingly good."
Emma shook her head but closed her book, finally giving him her full attention. "Alright, smooth talker. You've got five minutes before I decide whether you're worth talking to."
Jake smirked. "That's all I need."
After a few weeks of texting back and forth-mostly filled with Jake's nonstop jokes and Emma's reluctant laughter-he finally convinced her to go on a date.
He picked her up and, as soon as she stepped out of her apartment, he grinned. "I'd take you to the movies, but they don't let snacks in."
Emma rolled her eyes but blushed anyway. "That one was cheesy."
"Cheesy? Or perfectly timed?" Jake countered.
They went to a rooftop restaurant, where the city lights stretched out around them. As they ate, Jake leaned on his elbows. "You must be a magician because every time I look at you, everyone else disappears."
Emma pretended to consider. "Or maybe you just have poor vision."
Jake laughed. "Oof. Okay, I see how it is. You're tough." He took a dramatic deep breath. "But that's fine. I like a challenge."
Emma smirked. "Oh? And what happens if I never fall for your rizz?"
Jake raised a brow. "Do you have a Band-Aid? Because I just scraped my knee falling for you."
This time, Emma burst out laughing. "You're ridiculous."
"And yet... you're still here," Jake pointed out.
Emma shook her head but couldn't argue with that.
As the months passed, Jake didn't let up on his charm, and Emma found herself looking forward to it. It wasn't just the lines-it was the way he said them, the way he genuinely cared. He wasn't just some flirt; he made her feel special.
One evening, as they walked through the park, he suddenly stopped.
"Knock knock."
Emma groaned. "Jake, please. Not a knock-knock joke."
"Trust me," he said, grinning. "Knock knock."
She sighed. "Fine. Who's there?"
"Olive."
"Olive who?"
"Olive you... and I think you're about to admit that you've totally fallen for me."
Emma stared at him, her face unreadable. Then, after a long pause, she whispered, "Yeah... I think I have."
Jake blinked, as if he hadn't actually expected her to say it. Then, his signature grin softened into something more real, more tender.
"You don't need to pay rent to live in my mind-it's rent-free for you," he murmured, brushing a strand of hair behind her ear.
Emma chuckled, shaking her head. "You really are something else, Jake."
"And you, Emma," he said, pulling her close, "are my nothing. Because they say nothing lasts forever, and I plan on proving that right."
And with that, the smooth talker finally got his girl. But in the end, it wasn't just the rizz that won her over-it was him.
"If you were a song, you'd be my favorite track-playing on repeat, stuck in my head, and impossible to forget."
