Episode 5

I got to school and parked my car in the parking lot. Gosh it sure was a huge school, as I walked into the building I just realized that I had missed orientation week which was usually the first week of school and I had forgotten to inform Lisa. Without a mentor and a tour around the school, I was basically lost. I thought about asking the secretary but something about the way her hands moved swiftly on the keyboard and the un-amused look on her face told me she did not need any disturbance.

As I walked through the dark hall of high school, reality set on me. I was a freshman; I have heard many horror stories about freshmen going to middle school. The torture and bullying, gosh I do not want to be any part of that.

I turned a corner and then I realized I was back at the start. Okay that is it, I do not care if that secretary did not want to be disturbed, and it was her job. I walked back into the office and went straight up to her desk. The way she slowly and pointedly looked up from her laptop to look at me made me lose my I don’t care attitude and started regretting walking up to her in the first place. I had not realized I was staring until I saw her mouth move.

“Sorry, what?” I asked feeling stupid for staring. What is wrong with you Jade get yourself together

“I said is anything the matter, you ought to be in class and not roaming the halls like a stray dog” she said but it sounded more like stupid-freshman-is-disrupting-my-work-irritated

“I am no stray dog” I said getting a little upset “I am a freshman and this is my first day of high school. I am having a little trouble locating my class as I had no tour around the school”

“There are maps on the walls at critical points to help lost students find their way, if your eyes are not working well may I recommend you get glasses”

Oh no she didn’t, this secretary was so rude. Sheesh what is her problem?!

“Look her lady, if I saw the maps I wouldn’t be here” I said in a are you stupid or are you just lacking brain tone

“So much for getting help from a secretary” I said under my breath, but I was pretty sure she heard me because she rolled her eyes at me.

“Let me see your schedule” she said reluctantly

“Like I said first day in high school, I don’t I have a schedule”

She gave me this nasty look and told me to sit on chair while she looked for my file. I am pretty sure I heard her call me a rich spoilt brat. She started it I had no intention of being rude. If she hated her job, she did not have to transfer her anger on the students.
