CHAPTER 4

Dear

Mark

"If you are reading this letter, it means I am no longer in this world.

I'm sorry, son. I love you. I'm sorry that I couldn't be a good father to you.

I owe you an apology, but it seems I won’t be able to ask for your forgiveness directly. Maybe this is my punishment for being a bad father.

I'm tired. I'm tired of everything. This life never gave me an ounce of happiness.

When I was 10 years old, my mom died—she committed suicide. My father hated both my mom and me. He would always insult her and hit her.

One day, I returned from school to find her lifeless body hanging from the ceiling.

It was the worst nightmare of my life. That day, I became an orphan.

But my father didn’t care. He just completed all the rituals half-heartedly. It was as if her death brought him relief.

Three months after my mother’s death, my father married another woman. She didn’t like me at all. She found every way to torture and insult me, always making me look guilty in front of my father, and he always believed her.

After two years, she got pregnant with my father’s child and gave birth to a son. From then on, she became even more wary of me.

When she realized I was a bright student, she became anxious that I might become the family's successor. So, she plotted against me, framing me as a thief in front of my father.

She accused me of stealing his expensive and favorite wristwatch. And as always, he believed her.

That was the first time I rebelled against my father. I couldn’t tolerate it anymore—my patience had reached its limit.

In return, I got a strong slap on my face and was kicked out of the house.

In a single moment, I became homeless. I felt so helpless. Luckily, my friend helped me—he let me stay with him, lent me some money, and even helped me find a part-time job.

I managed to work while continuing my studies. It wasn’t easy, but thanks to my friend’s support, it was bearable.

At that time, I was 18 years old. I started saving money little by little and eventually started a small business with my friend. After seven years of hard work, we built it into a huge and successful company.

When I was 28, I met your mom. She was a new employee, working as a manager.

I fell for her at first sight.

I promoted her to my secretary so I could keep her close.

One day, I proposed to her in front of everyone. She accepted. It was the happiest day of my life.

I thought I had finally found someone I could call family.

I did everything I could for her. I even broke my friendship with my business partner because he hated her.

A year later, we got married. For the first two years of our marriage, everything went well.

But after that, things started to change.

One day, she gave me her resignation letter. I was shocked. When I asked her why, she said that if she continued working at my company, people would gossip and assume I was giving her special treatment. I found her reasoning fair, so I agreed to her resignation.

A few days later, she told me she had gotten a new job. She was so happy, and seeing her happy made me happy too.

But after she joined her new workplace, she started to change. She began avoiding me. She was always busy with phone calls at midnight.

Whenever I asked her about it, she always told me they were work-related. I didn’t think much of it—I believed her. But something felt off. She started coming home late. She spent most of her time at pubs.

I thought that having a baby might change things, that it might bring stability to our lives. So, I pressured her to have one.

But she told me she didn’t want children. Her priority was her career, and she wouldn’t compromise it for anything.

So, I changed my approach. I switched her contraceptive pills with vitamin supplements.

A few months later, I found a paper in the wardrobe. Curious, I picked it up and read it. That’s when I realized—she had aborted our child a month ago. And I had no idea.

My whole world stopped. I couldn’t believe she had done this.

When she came home, I confronted her. But she simply said she didn’t want a baby because it would interfere with her career.

I asked her why she hadn’t told me anything.

She said that if she had, I would have tried to stop her. She said it all so casually, as if it was nothing.

I was so angry—I wanted to say something, but before I could, she told me that if I didn’t like her decisions, she would divorce me.

I couldn’t argue. I didn’t want to lose her at any cost.

After that night, her life became even more reckless. But even then, I said nothing.

I fell into depression. I went to see a psychologist for help. He suggested that I should have a child.

But I told him my wife didn’t want one.

Then, he suggested surrogacy.

Money was never a problem for me, so it was easy to arrange for a surrogate mother.

One and a half years later, you were born.

I thought she might love you, even just a little, since you were my child. I thought her issue was with pregnancy, not with having a child.

But I was wrong.

She ignored you. To her, you were just an extra burden.

I was helpless. I raised you alone.

But what broke my heart the most was seeing you always running after her, desperate for a little attention, while she continued to ignore you.

You believed she didn’t love you because you weren’t a good child. So, you did everything to please her.

She took advantage of that and used you for her own selfish purposes.

Because of that, I never got the chance to know what was really happening.

One day, while working at my office, I received an anonymous parcel.

Inside, I found photographs—disturbing photos of her in compromising situations.

There was also a note. It contained an address and a demand for 10 million dollars. If I didn’t pay, the photos would be uploaded to the internet.

At first, I thought they were fake.

So, I had the pictures examined by experts. They confirmed they were real.

I couldn’t believe she had sunk so low. Right then, I decided I would divorce her.

I sent the money to the given address to protect my reputation.

Then, I went home as soon as possible.

And the rest of the story—you already know.

I know what happened to you was wrong. And I don’t blame you for your past actions.

You were right in your own way.

I have nothing more to say.

I’m sorry. Maybe I failed as a father.

I was just too consumed by my own demons.

Live well and take care of yourself.

your

Useless father.

After reading this letter Mark became more guilty.

He cried,  holding that letter. His father was the only one who loved him and cherished him but he hurt that man for who? For someone who never considered him as her son.

And after that, his faith in love was destroyed completely.  His guilt and his hatred for his mother made him twisted.

For him, girls became his playthings, and he used them for his physical satisfaction and dirty games.

Present

Suddenly, the phone rings. By hearing the sound he comes from his thoughts. And pick up the call. After that, he again becomes busy with his work.
