The drive back to the Valenciaga estate was silent. Leon sat in the backseat of his car, the folder resting on his lap, his mind racing. The black rose. The Everleigh fire. A cover-up.
Jace sat in the front, glancing at him through the rearview mirror. “What’s the move?”
Leon didn’t answer right away. He flipped through the documents again, eyes scanning over the charred remains of the Everleigh’s old mansion. The report had been buried deep—whoever covered it up had enough power to erase almost everything.
Almost.
His fingers traced the image of the black rose.
“You’re not going to let this go, are you?” Jace sighed.
Leon smirked faintly. “You know me too well.”
Jace shook his head. “Then I’ll prep the team. We might need more than just intel for this.”
Leon leaned back, tapping his fingers against the folder. “No. Not yet.” His golden eyes flickered with something unreadable. “First, I want to hear what she has to say.”

Evelyn stood by her bedroom window, staring out at the Everleigh estate’s sprawling gardens. The gala had ended, but the tension lingered.
Her father’s warning echoed in her mind.
Stay away from him.
But why?
The Valenciaga name had always been whispered in the dark, a family that thrived in the underworld. But there was something deeper here—something her father wasn’t telling her.
Her thoughts were interrupted by a soft vibration from her phone.
A message.
From an unknown number.
“Meet me. Midnight. Blackwood Gardens.”
No name. No explanation.
But she knew exactly who it was.
Leon Valenciaga.
Her fingers hovered over the screen. Every instinct told her to ignore it. To stay far away.
And yet…
She typed one word.
“Why?”
A response came almost immediately.
“Because I know your family’s secret.”
Her heart stopped.
Evelyn swallowed hard, staring at the words.
Then, with a deep breath, she grabbed her coat.
She needed answers.
And tonight, she was going to get them.
