Aurora’s POV
The smell of fresh pancakes filled the air as I stepped into the kitchen, rubbing the sleep from my eyes. My mom was already at the stove, flipping a pancake onto a plate, while my dad sipped his coffee and skimmed the newspaper at the dining table.
“Morning, honey,” Mom greeted, setting down a plate for me.
“Morning,” I mumbled, sliding into my seat.
Noah, my little brother, was already stuffing his face with food, grinning at me between bites. “You look like a zombie, Aurora.”
I rolled my eyes. “Gee, thanks.”
Dad chuckled, lowering his paper. “Big test coming up?”
“No, just… tired,” I muttered, playing with my food. I wasn’t about to admit that the reason I barely slept last night was because I couldn’t stop thinking about Damien.
His touch.
His voice.
The way he warned me.
Something about the way he looked at me yesterday had felt different.
Stronger.
Darker.
“Maybe you should make some friends instead of studying all the time,” Mom said gently, taking a seat beside Dad. “You never talk about anyone from school.”
Noah snickered. “Except Damien Blackwood.”
I choked on my pancake. “What? No! I don’t talk about him!”
“You don’t have to,” he teased. “The whole school saw him looking at you yesterday.”
I felt heat rush to my face. Was everyone seriously talking about that?
“It was nothing.” I shoved another piece of pancake into my mouth, desperate to end this conversation.
Mom and Dad exchanged a glance but didn’t push it.
Thank God.
I hurried to finish my food and grabbed my bag. “I’m leaving early.”
“Be careful, sweetheart,” Mom called after me.
Little did she know—that was exactly what I should have been doing.

Damien’s POV
I watched from the shadows as she stepped out of her house, her bag slung over her shoulder, completely unaware of my presence.
Just like always.
Just like she had been for years.
She didn’t know that I was watching.
That I had never stopped.
That I had fought every single day to stay away from her, to let her live her life undisturbed.
But that was getting harder.
Yesterday had been a mistake. I had let myself get too close, too soon.
And now, I was losing control.
I clenched my fists as I watched her walk down the street, disappearing toward the school.
I had done my best to stay in the shadows.
But today?
Today, I was about to break every rule I had set for myself.
---
Aurora’s POV
I walked through the school gates, keeping my head down as usual.
For a moment, I let myself believe today would be normal.
I was wrong.
I was halfway to my locker when a voice called out, “Aurora, wait up!”
I turned—and blinked in surprise.
Noah Carter.
Not to be confused with my little brother, Noah Carter was one of the nicest guys in school. Smart, funny, and completely harmless.
“Hey,” I said cautiously as he caught up to me.
“I was wondering if you could help me with our chemistry assignment?” he asked, rubbing the back of his neck. “You’re the smartest in class, and I could really use some tutoring.”
I hesitated.
“I mean, if you’re too busy, it’s totally fine,” he added quickly.
“No, it’s okay,” I said, giving him a small smile. “I can help.”
His face lit up. “Really? Thanks! Maybe we can meet at the library after school?”
Before I could answer—
A deep, dark voice cut through the air.
“She’s busy.”
I froze.
The hallway went silent.
I knew that voice.
I slowly turned, heart pounding in my chest.
Damien Blackwood stood just a few feet away, his golden eyes burning with something fierce.
Possessive.
Dangerous.
His jaw was clenched, muscles tense.
And he was staring at Noah like he wanted to rip his throat out.
Noah shifted uncomfortably. “Uh—Damien, I was just—”
“I said she’s busy.”
Damien’s voice was calm. Too calm.
Noah swallowed. “R-right. I’ll just—um—see you later, Aurora.”
And then he practically ran.
Leaving me standing there, staring at Damien in shock.
---
Damien’s POV
I should have let him walk away.
I should have ignored it.
But the second I saw that pathetic excuse of a man talking to her—smiling at her—
I lost control.
My wolf surged forward, demanding to be let out.
"Mine."
"She’s mine."
"No one else touches her. No one else even looks at her."
I clenched my fists, fighting the urge to drag her away.
She didn’t understand it yet.
Didn’t know why she felt the pull toward me.
Didn’t know that every time she smiled at another man, it sent me into a rage I could barely control.
Didn’t know that her fate was already sealed.
She belonged to me.
And soon… she would know it too.
---
Aurora’s POV
I stood there, stunned.
Damien’s golden eyes locked onto mine, burning with something I didn’t understand.
But I could feel it.
The tension. The heat.
Something about it made my stomach twist.
I wanted to ask him why.
Why did he care? Why was he acting like this?
But before I could open my mouth, he turned on his heel and walked away—leaving me breathless.
And worse…
Leaving me wanting more.
