Requiem of the Forgotten Gods

Requiem of the Forgotten Gods

Prologue : the death of a legend

The last thing Kael Varian was cold bite of steel against his throat.

Betrayal had a taste-metallic like blood pooling in his mouth. It smelled of damp stone and the sticky-sweet smell of burning incense. His body, once a weapon sharper than any blade, now lay motionless on the marble floor, crimson spreading beneath him like ink on parchment.

Footsteps echoed. A familiar voice whispered in his ear.

"You should have stayed dead the first time, Phantom Reaper. "

Then-darkness.

But death was not the end.

It was only the beginning.

Chapter 1 : The Awakening

Kael woke to the sensation of fire crawling through his veins.

He sucked in a sharp breath, his lungs burning as though he had been drawning for hours. His fingers twitched against silk sheets- too soft, too foreign. The weight of a body that wasn't his own pressed down on him. He knew instinctively- this wasn't him.

Where was the battlefield? The blood-soaked ground? The echoes of war drums pounding in his skull?

His vision swarmed as he forced himself upright, head throbbing with memories that didn't belong to him. A mirror stood across the dimly lit room. Slowly, he pushed himself to his feet, unsteady, like a newborn fawn.

The reflection staring back at him was.... wrong.

Gone was the scarred, battle-worn face of Phantom Reaper. Instead a younger man with sharp, aristocratic features and haunting silver eyes gazed back.

His body was lean, unfamiliar - but he could sense the raw, dormant power beneath his skin.

That's when it hit him.

He had died. And now - he was reborn.

But why?

A knock at the door made him tense. Reflexively, he reached for a weapon that wasn't there. A woman's voice, clipped and commanding, called from the other side.

"Lord Erevan, are you awake? "

Erevan.

That was this body's name.

Kael - no, Erevan- exhaled slowly. He didn't knew who he was supposed to be in this life, but one thing was certain.

He was no ordinary person.

And he would find out why he had been brought back.
