5. Jack

"Do you know Xander Stone? I think he is dating Nicola." I heard someone say I passed them in the hall.

"Why would you say that?" Someone asked.

"Today Lanita saw them making out in the parking lot."

"What? Really?"

"Yeah, even I saw them making out in the girl's washroom."

"Did you listen to what I said?" Tessa asked.

"Uhh, what?"

"Girl? What's wrong with you? You have been zoning out today a lot."

"Nothing, I'm just tired," I replied faking a yawn.

"Yeah right." She said not believing my words.

"Anyway, Jack is throwing his annual party today. He asked me to invite you."

"He did?" I asked surprised.

Jack is the boy who I have been crushing on since sophomore.

He is the jokester of our school and a great host. Every year he throws a party to welcome the freshers and new students. It is his signature style of letting the new term start with a bash.

"Yeah. And his words were "Hey you are Tessa, right? I want you to invite Cassandra to my party, you can also come" She said trying to mimic his voice.

I laughed and continued stuffing books and papers in my locker.

"Hey, that's Xander, right?" She said suddenly looking at someone behind me.

I turned around to see Xander sucking Nicole's face but what caught my attention was his eyes, which were focused on me.

I looked at him and raised an eyebrow before rolling my eyes at him.

"What a fuckboy." I said to Tessa and left for my last class of the day, i.e. Drama.

Ms. Daisy has given us a pop quiz about a book which we had learned last year. But the problem was, we had to do that with our partner but my partner has decided not to come to the class, which left me alone with the work.

"Cassandra if you want, for today you can partner up with Jack." Ms. Daisy said.

"Okay Ms. Daisy," I said and switched my pace next to Jack who was grinning at me.

"Hi." He said as I sat beside me.

"Hi." I smiled shyly at him.

"Who is your partner again?" He asked.

"Xander Stone."

"Oh, mine is Nicole. I guess this makes sense why we are both without our partners today."

" Yeah. They might be sucking each other's face somewhere." I said.

He laughed slowly and passed me his paper.

That's when the door opened and in walked a messed-up Nicole with a proud smirk and Xander.

"You guys are late." Ms. Daisy said as they entered the class.

"We know, we were kind of busy. It won't happen again." Nicole said and looked at Xander, who was searching for someone.

"Yeah busy sucking faces," Jack whispered which made me giggle.

"Hey, you are sitting at my place," Nicole said looking at me with disgust.

"Nicole, you can sit with Xander today." Ms. Daisy said before I could reply.

Her face lights up at the mention of Xander's name.

She smiled broadly at Ms. Daisy and hopped up to Xander.

I looked at Xander who was glaring at me and Jack.

His eyes met mine for a second but he looked away.

"I don't know what's his problem," Jack said as he watched Xander glaring at his paper.

"Me neither," I said and continued with my quiz.

After 30 minutes of scribbling on paper, giggling at Jack's weird pickup lines, and laughing at his poor jokes, we handed our quiz.

"That was fun," Jack said as I packed my stuff.

"Yes! I wish I was partnered with you." I said as I got up to leave.

"Let's ask Ms. Daisy if we can switch our partner's, and I guess Xander and Nicole won't mind." He said as we watched Xander and Nicole, fighting?

"Uh, I hope so," I said looking at them confused.

"Ms. Daisy, we were thinking if we could swap our partners?" Jack asked.

"No Jack you can't." Ms. Daisy said arranging the papers.

"Please, Ma'am. And I don't think Nicole and Xander will mind." I said looking at Nicole and Xander.

Nicole looked like she was flying in the seventh heaven and Xander looked like he would kill someone now and I think someone is me, precisely.

Ms. Daisy looked at all of us then "Okay fine if you guys want to swap your partners then okay, but I won't allow you to change again." She said and left the room.

I and Jack looked at each other with wide grins and almost, almost hugged each other.

"Yes, now we can sit together for a whole year baby." Nicole chirped in her annoying voice.

I looked at Xander who was again glaring but this time at Nicole. He looked at me and Jack before stomping off from class with Nicole following him like a lost puppy.

"Well, he didn't look happy," Jack said as we walked out of the class together.

I just shrugged.

"Uh Cass, I can call you that right?" Jack asked.

"Yeah."

"So, did your friend invite you to my party?" He asked as we stopped at my locker.

"Yeah, she did."

"I would have invited you personally but I was kind of nervous." He said scratching his neck

I laughed.

"So, you will come, right?"

"Maybe"

"Please." He said with pouty lips and puppy eyes.

"That won't work on me," I said and closed my locker.

"Okay, then what about I will give you a pick and drop service for a month if you come to my party?" He asked.

"Nope."

"Or else you have to come on a date with me if you won't come to my party."

"Are you asking me out, Jack?" I asked with a small smirk.

"Uh, something like that."

"Okay fine, I will come to your party."

"And on a date too." He added.

"I didn't agree for a date."

"You will, soon." He said and left before I could reply to anything.

I shook my head slightly at his childish way and went to the parking lot, where Tessa was waiting for me.

"What took you so long?" She asked as I reached her.

"Jack," I said.

"What did he want?"

"Nothing, he was just making sure I was going to his Party."

"You guys talked?" She asked surprised.

"Yeah and we are now partners in the Drama class," I informed her as she started her car.

"What about Xander? He was your partner before, right?"

"Yeah but now Nicole is his partner."

"Poor him."

"There's nothing sad about that. They are dating so it's a good thing for them."

"They are dating?" She questioned.

"Yeah, haven't you seen them today exchanging saliva."

"Yeah, I did, but I saw him making out with Cherry when I was waiting for you."

"Whatever, let him be," I said.

"So, we are going to Jack's party today?" She asked changing the topic.

"Yeah. You can come over to my place before the party."

"Okay." She said as she parked her car in front of my house.

"See you at 6," I said and left.

"I'm home," I shouted to the empty house.

"Welcome home," I replied to myself.

Yeah, I do this every time, I know it's weird but it's now a habit.

I went to my room to find a parcel on my study table.

I frowned as I picked up the parcel. My name was written on it and there was no name of the sender, so I removed the note attached to it.

And let's just say it was something that will change everything soon.
