Chapter 15: A Totally Not Awkward Living Arrangement

Su Yan stared at the small pile of his belongings, slumped against the wall of Jian’s room. His life had officially gone from bad to why is this happening to me?

“I cannot believe this,” he muttered under his breath.

“Believe it, roommate~” Jian sing-songed as she plopped onto her bed, stretching like a lazy cat. “From now on, you’re living here. With me.”

Su Yan gritted his teeth. “Why do I have to live with you? Wasn’t blackmailing me into being your assistant enough?!”

Jian giggled. “Oh, Su Yan. You’re adorable when you think you have a say in things.”

The system chuckled in his head. “Oh, she owns you, buddy.”

“Shut up,” Su Yan snapped mentally.

Jian rolled onto her side, propping her head up with her hand. “It’s simple. You living here makes it easier for me to keep an eye on you. I don’t want my little assistant running away in the middle of the night. Also, let’s be real—you were probably going to get caught sneaking around your dorm sooner or later.”

He couldn’t even argue with that.

Not to mention, Jian wasn’t just any disciple—she was a Core Disciple. And in the sect hierarchy, that made her a terrifying existence.

The Sect Hierarchy

The sect had a strict ranking system for disciples:

>Outer Disciples – The lowest rank. Mostly made up of newcomers and those without talent. They did chores\, manual labor\, and basic cultivation training.

>Inner Disciples – Those who showed promise were promoted to this rank. They had access to better techniques and training resources.

>Grand Disciples – A special tier for those personally mentored by high-ranking elders. They were considered elite but still below the true monsters of the sect. Su Yan had recently been promoted to this rank due to his rapid progress and the attention of Zhen\, which gave him some status—but not nearly enough to challenge a Core Disciple like Jian.

>Core Disciples – The strongest\, most privileged disciples\, personally trained by the sect’s top masters. They had near-unlimited resources\, authority over lower ranks\, and were treated as future sect leaders.

Jian, being a Core Disciple, had power nearly equal to Zhen. If she wanted to make Su Yan’s life hell, there was nothing he could do to stop her.

The First Night

Hours later, after much arguing (which he lost), Su Yan sat on a futon in the corner of Jian’s room, arms crossed, sulking like a child.

Jian, meanwhile, sat on her bed, humming to herself as she combed her hair. “You know, you should be grateful. Most guys would kill to be in your position.”

Su Yan snorted. “Yeah, sure. I love being blackmailed into servitude.”

She smirked. “Oh, don’t be so dramatic. It’s not like I’m making you do anything crazy. Yet.”

“That ‘yet’ is exactly why I can’t relax.”

Jian leaned back, studying him. “You’re fun, Su Yan. So much more interesting than those arrogant sect elites.”

He narrowed his eyes. “Why are you even doing this? You could’ve just reported me.”

She shrugged. “Where’s the fun in that?”

His headache got worse.

Silence stretched between them before Jian suddenly grinned. “Oh, by the way, I only have one bathroom, so if you need to bathe, you’ll have to wait until I’m done.”

Su Yan sighed. “Fine. How long do you take?”

She tapped her chin. “Hmm… an hour? Maybe two?”

His jaw dropped. “TWO HOURS?!”

Jian shrugged. “Beauty takes time, Su Yan.”

The system snorted. “She’s got a point.”

Su Yan groaned, flopping back onto his futon. “I’m never getting used to this.”

Jian smirked. “Oh, you will. Because you belong to me now.”

He buried his face in his pillow.

This was going to be hell.
