Episode 4: The Script That Could Change Everything
Title: Zara Iloh: Writing His Destiny
Episode Overview:
Zara spends sleepless nights working on his first-ever script, struggling to turn his comic panels into a format that can be filmed. With the pressure of proving himself to Mr. Banjo, he doubts his abilities but pushes forward with determination. After completing the script, he nervously presents it to Mr. Banjo, hoping it’s good enough to take him one step closer to his dream.
The Struggles of Writing a Script
Zara quickly realizes that writing a comic book and writing a script are two different worlds.
In comics, he could draw action scenes with sound effects like BOOM! and CRASH!, but in a script, he had to describe everything in a way that made sense to filmmakers. He couldn’t just write “Cyber Vortex punches Shadowborn.” He had to think about how the scene would play out—where the camera would focus, how the characters would react, and how it would all flow naturally.
For hours, he stares at the blank page, feeling frustrated.
Kunle, seeing his friend struggle, drops by with some encouragement.
“Bro, stop overthinking. Just write what you see in your head, like a movie playing.”
Zara sighs. “Easier said than done.”
Kunle smirks. “Or… we could watch some superhero movies for ‘inspiration.’”
They spend hours watching classic superhero films and analyzing fight scenes. Zara takes notes on how directors pace action, how characters interact, and how dialogue feels natural. Slowly, he begins to understand the flow of storytelling in film.
The First Draft
After two days of writing, erasing, and rewriting, Zara finally finishes his short script. He chooses a scene where Cyber Vortex suits up for the first time and takes down three Shadowborn thugs in a dark alley.
Excerpt from Zara’s Script:
EXT. DARK ALLEY – NIGHT
A dim streetlight flickers. Footsteps echo.
OBINNA hides behind a dumpster, holding his breath as three SHADOWBORN THUGS walk past, scanning the area. Their cybernetic implants glow red.
THUG #1
(whispers)
The target is close.
Obinna clenches his fists. The CYBER VORTEX SUIT forms around him, its nanotech crawling over his body like liquid metal. His visor flashes blue.
He steps out.
OBINNA (CYBER VORTEX)
Guess what? You found me first.
The thugs turn. One charges. Obinna dodges, then counters with a spinning electric punch. Sparks fly as the thug crashes into the dumpster.
THUG #2 pulls out a plasma knife and lunges—Obinna ducks, grabs his wrist, and flips him over his shoulder.
The final thug raises a gun—Obinna hacks it mid-air. The gun glitches, then explodes in the thug’s hands.
The last thug stares in fear.
OBINNA (CYBER VORTEX)
Tell your boss I’m coming.
The thug scrambles away. Obinna exhales, the neon lights of the city reflecting off his armor.
Zara sits back, exhausted but proud. “I think… I did it.”
Kunle reads it and whistles. “Bro, this is fire. Mr. Banjo has to love this.”
Presenting the Script
The next day, Zara and Kunle return to Banjo Studios, the script tightly held in Zara’s hands. His heart pounds as he steps into Mr. Banjo’s office.
Mr. Banjo takes the script and begins reading. The silence in the room is nerve-wracking. Every second feels like an hour.
Finally, Mr. Banjo leans back in his chair.
“This…” He pauses.
Zara holds his breath.
“…is good.”
Zara’s eyes widen. “Wait… really?”
Mr. Banjo nods, smiling for the first time. “You have a natural talent for storytelling. It needs some refining, but you captured the action, the tension, and the excitement of a superhero scene. I can see it playing out in my head.”
Kunle punches the air. “Let’s gooo!”
Mr. Banjo places the script on his desk. “Here’s what I’m thinking. We’ll start small. I can get a few actors, a cameraman, and some basic visual effects. If we can make a short film based on this scene, we’ll show it to investors. If they like it, we can get funding for a full project.”
Zara is speechless. A movie? Even if it’s just a short one, it’s a step toward his dream.
“You in?” Mr. Banjo asks.
Zara doesn’t even hesitate. “Yes, sir. I’m all in.”
Cliffhanger Ending:
Zara’s journey is just beginning. Will his short film impress investors? Can he bring The Shadowborn to life on the big screen? Find out in the next episode!
