Episode 3: The Meeting That Changes Everything
Title: Zara Iloh: A Foot in the Door
Episode Overview:
After Kunle’s bold move, Zara is invited to meet Mr. Jide Banjo, the owner of a small movie company. Nervous but excited, Zara prepares himself for what could be the biggest moment of his life. However, the meeting doesn’t go exactly as he imagined. While Mr. Banjo is impressed by The Shadowborn, he challenges Zara to prove he has more than just ideas—he must show that he understands storytelling and filmmaking if he wants a real opportunity. Determined to take the first step toward his dream, Zara faces a new challenge: creating a short script based on his comic.
The Meeting with Mr. Banjo
Zara and Kunle arrive at Banjo Studios, a small but professional-looking film office in Lagos. Zara is in awe as he sees actors rehearsing, crew members setting up cameras, and posters of previous movies hanging on the walls.
“This is crazy,” Zara mutters under his breath.
Kunle nudges him. “Relax, bro. Just be yourself.”
They are led into Mr. Banjo’s office, where the man himself, a well-dressed businessman in his late 40s, greets them. He flips through the pages of The Shadowborn as Zara sits across from him, feeling his heart race.
“Young man,” Mr. Banjo begins, “this is good. Very good. The concept, the characters, the setting—there’s a lot of potential here.”
Zara can barely believe what he’s hearing. “Thank you, sir.”
“But,” Mr. Banjo continues, setting the comic down, “ideas are one thing. Making them a reality is another. Do you know how expensive it is to turn a superhero story into a movie? CGI, fight choreography, set design—this isn’t something you just wake up and do.”
Zara’s excitement fades slightly. “I… I understand.”
Mr. Banjo leans forward. “But I’m not saying no. I see talent in you, Zara. The question is, do you have what it takes to turn this into something real?”
Zara nods quickly. “Yes, sir. I do.”
“Good,” Mr. Banjo says with a smirk. “Then prove it. Write a script—a short, simple scene from The Shadowborn. Something we could actually film. If you can do that, I’ll consider helping you.”
A New Challenge: Writing His First Script
Zara leaves the meeting with mixed emotions. He’s thrilled that Mr. Banjo saw potential in him, but he also realizes that this is just the beginning. Writing a comic is one thing—writing a movie script is something entirely different.
Kunle pats him on the back. “See? I told you this would be big!”
“Yeah,” Zara sighs. “But now I actually have to write a script. And I don’t even know where to start.”
Kunle grins. “Bro, you already have the story in your head. Just put it on paper like you do with your comics.”
That night, Zara sits at his small desk, staring at a blank sheet of paper. He has never written a script before, but he refuses to back down. He pulls out his comic and flips through the pages, choosing one of the most action-packed scenes—the moment when Obinna first puts on the Cyber Vortex suit and fights off the Shadowborn for the first time.
“This is it,” he whispers. “This is where it begins.”
With determination, he picks up his pen and starts writing.
Cliffhanger Ending:
Will Zara be able to write a script good enough to impress Mr. Banjo? Will this be his first step toward making The Shadowborn a reality? Find out in the next episode!
