Episode Summary:

The first episode sets the tone of the game with players lured into a mysterious and dangerous competition. The scene begins with Minho, sitting in his small, dingy apartment, staring at his empty bank account. He’s just lost his job and has no way of repaying the massive debt that’s stacking up. Desperate, he receives a call that invites him to a strange game that promises a life-changing reward. Feeling he has nothing to lose, Minho accepts the invitation.

The players are transported to a hidden island. They're all blindfolded and led through a dark corridor until they reach a large, open field. They are greeted by masked guards, whose faces are obscured behind featureless masks. The players are made to wear numbered tracksuits, and Minho is assigned Player 456.

Jihoon (Player 001) looks tired, his hair graying, but there’s a quiet wisdom about him. As he sits down next to Minho, Jihoon speaks softly.

Jihoon: "I’ve been here before, you know. It’s always the same... they want you to believe it’s just a game. But it’s not. It's about survival."

Minho looks at him, unsure whether to believe the man. Nari (Player 013), seated nearby, overhears the conversation and adds her own thoughts.

Nari: “You think we’re just playing? This is bigger than you think. People like us? We’re just pawns in their game. And I’m not just here for the money. I have my own reasons.”

Seok (Player 092), who had been silently observing the other players, scoffs and joins the conversation.

Seok: "Why does it matter? We’re all in the same boat now. If you want to survive, you play. That’s it.”

As the players continue to chat nervously, the massive loudspeaker overhead crackles to life, announcing the first game.

Announcer (voice over the loudspeaker): "Welcome, players, to your first challenge. Red Light, Green Light. Only one rule: Move when it's green, stop when it's red. Failure to follow the rules will result in immediate elimination. Let the game begin."

The massive doors open, and a giant, robotic doll appears on the field in front of them. The doll’s voice booms through the field, as it begins chanting:

Doll: "Green Light... Red Light..."

The players are frozen in place, eyes wide, unsure of what to do next. As soon as the doll says “Green Light,” the players begin running, but the tension is palpable. Every player moves cautiously, trying not to make a sound or draw attention.

Suddenly, the doll announces “Red Light!” The players immediately stop, but one player—Player 298—keeps moving. The doll spins around, its eyes flashing red. In a blink, a loud mechanical sound fills the air as Player 298 is shot, falling lifeless to the ground.

A gasp spreads through the crowd, and the reality of the game begins to sink in.

Minho (Player 456) whispers to Jihoon, his voice trembling: “This... this can’t be real, right? They’re not actually killing people.”

Jihoon (Player 001): "It’s very real, Minho. You can’t stop, you can’t hesitate. This is a test. And if you don’t play by their rules, you’re out."

Nari, ever so confident, watches as another player falls.

Nari: “This is exactly why we’re here. No one cares about your morality when you’re desperate. We either win... or we die.”

Seok, meanwhile, watches every move around him with sharp eyes. His fingers twitch, and he’s ready to spring into action if anyone gets too close.

Seok: “The only thing that matters is making it to the end. If you want to survive, you better keep your eyes on the prize.”

As the game continues, the players grow more paranoid. Every time the doll turns, players freeze, only to hear the terrifying mechanical voice once again.

Doll: "Green Light... Red Light..."

The tension builds, and the game takes a dark turn as more players fall. By the end of the round, only a fraction of the 456 participants remain, including Minho, Jihoon, Nari, Seok, and Eunji.

The episode ends with a chilling silence as the survivors stare at the lifeless bodies scattered across the field.

Minho (to himself): “What have I gotten myself into?”

The camera zooms in on Minho’s terrified face as he realizes that winning this game might cost him far more than just his life.

End of Episode 1.
