The dust had barely settled after the battle, but the weight of what Yena had done lingered in the air. Her body ached, every muscle strained from the exertion of controlling the fox spirit within her. She was sitting on the floor, her back pressed against the wall, trying to regain her breath. Jun-ho knelt beside her, his hands gently brushing the strands of hair that had fallen over her face. His eyes were filled with concern, but Yena could see the pride there too.
"You were incredible and amazing," he whispered, his voice barely audible. "I’ve never seen anyone fight like that."
Yena’s lips curved into a faint smile, though it didn’t reach her eyes. "I didn’t want to fight," she replied, her voice tinged with regret. "But every time I try to escape this, it pulls me back in."
Her words were a heavy confession, one that Jun-ho could feel in the depths of his heart. She had been trying so hard to control the fox spirit within her, to push it down and live a normal life. But now, she had unleashed it, and in doing so, she had crossed a line that couldn’t be uncrossed.
Jun-ho knew that Sung Hwan wasn’t going to let this go. The dark sorcerer would be back, stronger and more determined than ever to break Yena. And Yena herself—her internal struggle was far from over. The more she used her fox power, the more she risked losing herself to the spirit.
"What do we do now?" Jun-ho asked, his voice filled with uncertainty.
Yena closed her eyes, her head resting against the wall as she tried to steady her breathing. "We fight and we will win ," she said quietly, but her voice lacked its usual confidence. "But I don’t know if I can keep doing this. I’m afraid I’ll lose myself completely."
Jun-ho gently cupped her face, forcing her to look at him. "You won’t lose yourself," he said firmly. "You’re stronger and smarter than you think yena . And you’re not alone in this. We’ll face whatever comes together."
Yena’s eyes softened, but she couldn’t shake the nagging feeling in her chest. She had always tried to protect those she loved, but in doing so, she had exposed them to dangers she couldn’t even begin to comprehend.
Suddenly, a loud knock at the door broke the silence, and both Yena and Jun-ho tensed. It was too soon for anyone to be coming, especially after what had just happened.
Jun-ho stood up quickly, his instincts kicking in. "Stay here," he whispered to Yena before he went to answer the door.
When he opened it, he was surprised to see Officer Kim standing there, her expression grave.
"We need to talk," she said, her tone low and serious. "It’s about Sung Hwan."
