The days that followed were filled with uncertainty and fear. Yena could feel the weight of Sung Hwan’s words pressing down on her, and the closer Jun-ho got to her, the more she feared for him. The curse was a dark and insidious thing, and it had a way of drawing in everything it touched.
Jun-ho, however, was as determined as ever. He stayed by her side, refusing to leave her alone, no matter how dangerous things became. He had seen the darkness in her eyes, felt the power that surged beneath her skin, and he wasn’t afraid. But Yena knew that he should be. And that terrified her more than anything.
"Yena," Jun-ho said one evening, his voice filled with quiet intensity. "You’ve been avoiding me."
Yena looked up from the window, where she had been staring out at the moonlit night. "I’m not avoiding you," she said softly, though her voice carried a hint of guilt. "I’m just... trying to figure things out."
Jun-ho stepped closer, his gaze filled with concern. "You don’t have to do this alone, you know. We’ll figure it out together."
Yena turned to face him, her expression somber. "This isn’t something you can fix, Jun-ho."
His brow furrowed. "Why do you keep saying that? You don’t have to carry this alone. I’m here for you."
Yena shook her head, the weight of the truth hanging between them. "I’m a gumiho. A cursed creature. And the longer you stay by my side, the more danger you’ll be in. Sung Hwan won’t stop until he has me, and if you’re in my life, you’ll be part of that."
Jun-ho’s face softened, and he reached out to gently take her hand. "I don’t care about the curse. I care about you. And if that means facing whatever this is with you, then I’ll do it."
Yena’s heart clenched in her chest, torn between the love she felt for him and the fear that he was only getting deeper into the web of her curse.
"Jun-ho," she said quietly, "You don’t know what you’re asking for. This path... it’s dangerous. And it’s one I’ve walked alone for centuries."
Jun-ho looked at her, his expression resolute. "And now, you won’t have to walk it alone anymore."
Yena closed her eyes, the weight of his words settling over her like a storm. She knew he meant it, but the path they were about to walk was one fraught with dangers she couldn’t shield him from.
Suddenly, a familiar voice echoed through the room, breaking the heavy silence.
"You really think you can protect her, boy?"
Sung Hwan stepped into the room, his eyes gleaming with malice. "You’re both too naive to understand what’s at stake here."
Yena’s body tensed, the fox spirit inside her stirring, but she knew this was only the beginning. The war for her soul had only just begun, and the darkness was closing in.
