Chapter 3: "A Moment of Truth"

Since Sara was frozen in anticipation, waiting for Alex's next move or her own courage to act, Alex's eyes still locked onto Sara's, the air thick with emotional tension. Slowly, he leaned forward, his face inches from hers. Sara's heart raced wildly, anticipating...

Sara's mind reeled as Alex's face hovered close to hers. Thoughts swirled like a vortex:

* **Guilty conscience**: Memories of her wedding vows and marriage to Jackson lingered, threatening to suffocate her.

* **Longing for connection**: Alex's kindness and understanding had awakened a deep desire for emotional intimacy.

* **Fear of unknown**: If she crossed this line, would she lose herself entirely or discover a new truth?

* **Attraction undeniable**: Alex's proximity ignited sparks within her, refusing to be ignored.

As these thoughts tangled, Sara's gaze remained fixed on Alex's eyes – warm, gentle, and inviting. His face drew closer still, breath whispering against her skin...

Just as Alex's lips seemed destined to meet Sara's, a gentle voice whispered in her mind – her mother's soft tone, filled with wisdom and love.

"Sara, dear heart, listen to your soul. What does it truly desire? Not what others expect, but what brings you alive?"

Sara's eyes fluttered closed, her mother's words piercing the haze of uncertainty. She took a deep breath, focusing inward...

* Her heart still ached from Jackson's indifference.

* Her spirit yearned for connection, kindness – everything Alex embodied.

As realization dawned, Sara's eyes reopened, locking onto Alex's gaze. His expression remained tender, awaiting her response...

Just as Sara leaned in slightly, her heart racing with anticipation, a loud voice echoed across the patio:

"Alex, phone call! Jackson needs you in his office, pronto!"

The spell was broken. Alex sighed softly, his eyes still locked on Sara's. "Duty calls. Seems like our moment's delayed...again."

Sara nodded slowly, feeling a mix of relief and disappointment. Alex stood up, brushing past her gently before following inside.

As Sara watched him leave, she realized:

* Their unfinished moment hung in the air like unresolved tension.

* Jackson's interruption might be a temporary reprieve – or a permanent obstacle.

Sara remained seated on the patio, lost in thought as she stared blankly at the spot where Alex had sat moments before. Her mind replayed their unfinished moment:

* The gentle way Alex looked at her

* The softness of his voice

* The undeniable spark between them

As she reflected, Sara realized her feelings for Alex went beyond friendship or gratitude – she was developing strong romantic emotions for him.

The patio doors sliding open broke her reverie. Sara expected Alex or Elony, but instead, Maria, the housekeeper, approached with a gentle smile.

"Mrs. Sara, may I refresh your coffee or bring some pastries? You seem lost in thought."

Sara appreciated Maria's kindness and discretion.

Sara smiled warmly at Maria, deciding to confide in her. "Actually, Maria, stay for a moment. I could use some wise words."

Maria's eyes sparkled with curiosity as she sat beside Sara. "Señora, your heart troubles you? Tell Maria."

Sara took a deep breath, sharing her feelings about Alex – their connection, kindness, and the unfinished moment. Maria listened attentively, nodding along.

When Sara finished, Maria placed a gentle hand on hers. "Señora, your heart sees good in Alex. But Jackson...he is your husband. Complications ahead, sí?"

Sara nodded solemnly. Maria continued, "Alex cares deeply for you, señora. I've seen his eyes when he looks at you."

Sara's voice barely above whispers: "Maria, do you think...Alex could ever truly be mine? He's Jackson's brother..."

Maria's expression turned thoughtful. "Blood ties strong, sí...but heart ties stronger. Alex chooses his own path, señora. The question is: will you choose him too?"

Sara pondered Maria's words, weighing the risks and desires. Her mind replayed moments with Alex – laughter, kindness, and that unfinished kiss.

Suddenly, Maria glanced towards the patio doors, her eyes narrowing slightly. "Señora, Alex returns. Alone."

Sara's heart skipped beats as she turned to see Alex standing in the doorway, watching her with an intense gaze.
