THE DARK FOREST

"I don’t like this”, Xander said, his voice barely above whisper.

Alistair nodded, his eyes scanning the trees. “I know”, he said. “But we have to go through it. The prophecy said that the wizard king would be found in the heart of the forest.”

Xander nodded, taking a deep breath. “Let’s do it,” he said.

Together they stepped into the forest, their spell book ready. The trees seems to close in around them, casting deep shadows that made it difficult to see.

As they walked, the silence grew thicker until it seemed to have a presence on it’s own. Alistair and Xander exchange nervous glance, their heart pounding in their chests.

Suddenly, a twig snapped behind them . Xander and Alistair spun around, their spell books opened.

“What was that ?” Xander whispered.

Alistair shook his head. “I don’t know,” he said. “But i think we are about to find out.”

As they stood there, frozen in anticipation, a figure Emerged from the shadows. It was tall and gaunt, with eyes that glowed like embers in the dark.

“Who are you?” Xander demanded, his his spell book at the ready.

The figure didn’t respond. Instead, it kept moving closer with it’s eyes fixed on the two wizards.

Alistair took a step back, his eyes darting nervously around the clearing. “I don’t like this.” He wishpered.

Xander nodded, his grip on his spell book tightening. “Let’s get out of here,” he whispered back.

But it was too late. The figure raised his hand, and a blast of dark energy shot towards them. Xander and Alistair leaped out of the way just in time, but they knew they couldn’t keep dodging forever.

They need a plan, and fast.

“Split up”, Xander yelled, already making a run for the trees.

Alistair followed close behind, the two of them weaving in and out of the trunks as the desperately tried to shake the pursuer.

But the figure was relentless, it’s dark magic tearing through the forest like hurricane.

Xander and Alistair knew they had to think fast if they want to survive this encounter.....

Xander suddenly stopped in his tracks, his eyes scanning the surrounding trees. “Alistair wait!” He whispered urgently.

Alistair skipped a halt beside him, his chest heaving with exertion. “What is it?” He whispered back.

Xander’s eyes locked onto a nearby thicket. “In there,” He whispered, already making a dash for a thicket.

Alistair followed close behind him, the two of them bursting into the thicket just as their pursuer unleashed another blast of dark magic.

The thicket erupted into a frenzy of snapping twigs and flying leaves, but Xander and Alistair were already huddled together with their spell books clasped tightly in their hands.

They waited, holding their breath, as the dark magic raged on outside. Finally the silence returned, and cautiously emerged from the thicket.

Their pursuer was nowhere to be seen, but the air was still thick with stench of dark magic. They both exchanged a wary glance.

“We need to keep moving,” Xander whispered.

Alistair nodded, his eyes scanning the surrounding trees. “But which direction ?” He whispered back.

Xander hesitated, unsure. But then, a faint rustling in the underbush caught his attention.

He turned to Alistair, a glimmer of hope in his eyes. “ I think I know,” he whispered.

And with that, they set off once more, deeper into the heart of the dark forest.
