Chapter 8

She took a shower. Li Mei helped her dry her hair, comb them, and get dressed. She then led her to the dining area where Huan was waiting already. They ate their breakfast then.

Around 9 o'clock, the home tutor Jin hired arrived in the residence. The Head Butler introduced the siblings to him. Before this, Qiuyue already informed him about this and Huan was happy and excited as expected.

"Listen to the tutor very well. If you do not understand something, ask him. Also, do not mention anything about us. Even if he asked you, do not answer him. Okay?" Qiuyue reminded.

The Head Butler led them to another room. The tutor and Huan walked into the room. His maid Li Ling will also be accompanying them so Qiuyue was more relieved. After the door had been closed, the Head Butler asked her to follow him. While walking in the hallway, he explained to her Huan's schedule.

After a few minutes more, they stopped in front of the Study. He opened the door and let her enter. She was surprised to see a new table set up beside the big one. Atop were pens, notebooks, a small lampshade, and a telephone.

"Young Miss, Master had informed me that he allowed you to access the Study." He stood beside the new table. "Master had instructed that this table is for you to occupy so that you can practice your writing. If you need any help, just lift this phone up. It will automatically dial a number and you will be able to speak directly to your maid, Li Mei. You can stay as long as you want. However, Li Mei will fetch you when it is time for your meals." He slowly explained.

"I understand. Thank you, Head Butler." She bowed respectfully.

The Head Butler bowed and left the room.

Qiuyue circled around her table touching its surface. She sat down her chair and was startled a little. She looked down and saw that there were small wheels attached to its feet. She turned around! Around and around!

She then stopped.

She got a pen from the holder and a notebook. She began scribbling. She wrote her name and Huan's name. She then wrote the names of her Father, Mother and Elder siblings. She finally wrote Mr. Song's name.

She smiled. She thought Mr. Song was very meticulous. He was very attentive to her needs. She felt that the more she stayed in his residence, the more she will not be able to repay him. This was only their second day living here but the number of things he had done for them was already countless. Even if she worked hard under him, she felt that it will never be enough.

'What else can I do?'

She sighed. She returned the pen in the holder. She then looked at the lampshade and switched it on. Off, on, off, on, off! She looked at the phone and was to lift it up when her hand froze in midair. She remembered the Head Butler's words. She retracted her hand slowly.

She turned the chair around once and halted abruptly when she caught sight of the shelves. Her eyes lit up. She stood up and walked towards it. She scanned the shelves and read the book titles. She felt her head will explode. Most of the books were about businesses. There were also some terms she did not know their meaning.

'Is there a book that I can look up to for the meaning of these words?'

She dashed to her table and hesitantly lifted the phone up.

"Young Miss, do you need anything?" Li Mei asked on the other line.

Qiuyue was stunned. This was her first time using a phone. It felt weird.

'Is this how Li Mei sound?'

"Young Miss?" Li Mei asked as no one was speaking on the other line.

"Li... Li Mei?" She hesitantly spoke. She felt nervous.

"Yes?" Li Mei answered, confused.

Qiuyue breathed a sigh of relief. "Li Mei, is there a book that I can use to know the meaning of a word? Like... Something I can look up to?"

"Young Miss, you are looking for a Dictionary. I will ask the Head Butler for one and bring it to you." She respectfully answered.

"Di.. Dictionary? Hmm. I will wait for you. Thank you." She replied.

"Okay, Young Miss. I will hang up now. You can put the phone down as well." Li Mei said.

Qiu Yue returned the phone to its holder and sat down. She truly felt nervous. It felt like it took her forever to ask for what she needed.

Li Mei put the phone down and chuckled. She found her Young Miss amusing. Before she was assigned to take care of her, she was already briefed of her Young Miss' life. She was very inexperienced when it came to technologies and modern facilities. She never thought her ignorance was a bad thing. She had been serving in the residence for 5 years. She had never been a personal maid. Now that she had been promoted to one, she was determined to do her best to look after her first Young Miss.

She hurriedly walked towards the Head Butler's office and informed him of her Young Miss' request.

After 10 minutes, she knocked on the door and entered. She saw her Miss reading a book while writing.

Qiuyue looked up.

"Li Mei!" She dashed in front of her. It startled her a little.

"Young Miss, are you okay?" She asked.

She put her hands on Li Mei's shoulder. "I am. Li Mei, is it normal to feel nervous when speaking on the phone? Did you feel nervous too?"

Li Mei was stunned a bit and then laughed. Qiuyue was confused. 'Did I say anything funny?'

When she realised she was laughing when she should not be, she stopped abruptly. "Young Miss, I am sorry for laughing."

"Hm?" She felt more confused.

"Young Miss, it must be your first time using a phone so it is normal to be nervous. Once you use it again, you will be more relaxed." She explained.

Qiuyue retracted her hands and breathed a sigh of relief. "Thank God."

Li Mei had the urge to laugh again but held it back. "Young Miss, this is the Dictionary." She was holding a small yet thick book. "If you would like, I will teach you how to use it." She offered.

Qiuyue's eyes lit up. She grabbed Li Mei by her hands and dragged her to her table. "Yes, please. I listed the words I do not understand."

Li Mei patiently explained how to use the dictionary. She also advised her Miss that she can read the dictionary for 10 minutes everyday so that she can learn new words. Qiuyue's eyes lit up whenever Li Mei said something and advised her. After 15 minutes, Li Mei left the room after Qiuyue thanked her repeatedly.

Two hours had passed and she was fetched by her to eat lunch. After which, she returned to the Study to read. After three hours of reading, she tidied up her desk and left the room. She looked for Huan who should have finished with his tutorial today.

Huan was all smiles as he told his sister what he did today. The tutor assessed Huan's knowledge first so he can identify the appropriate lessons to teach.

"Huan, do you still want to practice swordmanship?" She asked.

"Sister, I want to focus on studying for now. Tutor Ye said that he will also give me homework to do next time." He explained. He was feeling guilty a bit. His sister had been teaching him everyday before. He felt that she would surely be sad.

Contrary though, Qiuyue was relieved that he declined. This is what she wanted — for Huan to focus on his studies and nothing else. She patted his head. "You are right. You must focus on your studies. You must make Mr. Song realised that his decision to hire a tutor for you is right. You must make your sister proud too! Okay?" She said.

"I promise!" He grinned.

"Okay, go back to your room. Review what the tutor taught you today so that if he asked you questions tomorrow, you will be able to answer them all." She instructed.

"Okay, sister." He said as he ran out the room. He was actually very excited to start reading the books the tutor gave him.

Qiuyue informed Li Mei that she will do something in the room so she cannot stay. Li Mei nodded in understanding, walked out the room and closed the door silently.
