The soft hum of conversation surrounded us as we started walking toward my car.
"It's already shaping up to be an eventful year," Jenna said with a laugh. "I wonder why the professor didn't show up. Maybe they got stuck in traffic?"
I shrugged, a wry smile tugging at my lips. "Or maybe they decided to give us a taste of what a day without classes is like, as a preview of the future," I quipped, my voice tinged with sarcasm.
...----------------...
By the time we got back to the dorms, Jenna and I were both ready to call it a day. Before that, though, we’d dropped Lila off at her place after a quick hangout at a nearby café.
We’d spent an hour sipping coffee and catching up, the familiar banter making the day feel less Exhausting. Of course, I ended up paying for everyone—again.
Now, back in my bedroom, I had just finished a quick half-bath. Grabbing my stuff, I decided to start on the assignment our professor had given us earlier.
Sure, the deadline was still a bit far off, but I didn’t want to procrastinate. Even though I can be lazy sometimes, I try to get important tasks like this out of the way. Plus, the sooner I finished, The sooner I could relax.
The next morning, Jenna was at it again, trying to wake me up.
"Come on, get up!" she called, shaking me lightly.
I groaned and buried my face deeper into my pillow. "Five more minutes," I mumbled.
She sighed, clearly frustrated. "You always say that!"
Eventually, she gave up and left me there, muttering something about how she wouldn’t wait anymore.
By the time I finally dragged myself out of bed, I realized I was late. Great way to start the day.
I rushed to the bathroom to get ready, splashing cold water onto my face to fully wake up. Brushing my teeth hastily, I grimaced at my reflection in the mirror. I looked like a mess, but there was no time to waste on hair or makeup.
After getting ready, I quickly left the dorms and headed to my car, realizing Jenna must have decided to commute on her own.
Once inside, I buckled my seatbelt, started the engine, and hit the road, hoping to make up for lost time. But, as Luck would have it, the traffic was terrible. Perfect.
I sat in my car, tapping my fingers impatiently against the steering wheel. The traffic seemed endless, and the gridlock only added to my frustration. Glancing at the clock on the dashboard, I muttered a curse under my breath; I was definitely going to be late.
Finally, the traffic began to ease, and I started moving again. Just as I thought I might make it on time, a sudden screech of brakes pulled me out of my thoughts.
I jolted as the car in front of me stopped abruptly, and despite my best efforts to brake, I felt the unmistakable thud of my car lightly bumping into theirs.
Ugh! My car—a brand-new gift—now had a noticeable scratch. I groaned in frustration, gripping the steering wheel tightly.
Stepping out, I immediately walked to the other car and knocked on their window, trying to keep my irritation in check but failing miserably.
“Hey!” I called out, my tone sharp. “What the hell?!”
The window fully rolled down, and a woman leaned out, her expression cool and detached.
"What?" she said curtly, her tone bordering on dismissive.
I blinked in disbelief. Was she seriously acting like this was my fault?
"Excuse me?" I snapped, my frustration bubbling over. "Can you step out of the car and take a look? Do you even realize what you just did? My car is brand new!"
Her brows arched slightly, but she remained calm. Without a word, she opened her door and stepped out, her movements deliberate and unhurried.
The woman examined the scratch on my car, comparing it to the damage on hers. "It doesn’t look that big of a deal," she said coolly, "It’s actually worse on the back of my car. You know, it’s kind of traffic, and you're rushing. Can you even imagine how much my car costs?" she added with a mocking tone.
I clenched my fists, trying to control my growing frustration. "I was just trying to get to class on time, but that doesn't excuse what happened. You're acting like this is my fault!" I snapped, my voice rising.
She let out a sigh, clearly uninterested in my argument. "Look," she said, her tone turning more dismissive. "I'm already late, and I'm not about to stand here and argue with you. I’ll let it go this time, but maybe you should be more careful next time."
I stood there, stunned by her lack of empathy. She just brushed it off like it was no big deal, and all I could do was stand there, staring at the scratch on my car, feeling helpless and irritated.
With a last glance at me, she got back into her car and sped off, leaving me standing in the middle of the road. I exhaled sharply, letting out a frustrated sigh. "Great," I muttered under my breath, feeling the weight of the whole situation. "Just great."
