ITS TIME TO MEET FELOW FRIENDS
The night sky above the city gleamed with stars as Mitsuo Suwa, known to the world as Perman, soared effortlessly through the air. His eyes, sharp and experienced, scanned the streets below as he made his rounds. At 24, he had long outgrown the early days of his career as a young superhero. His youthful recklessness had been replaced by precision and focus, though the weight of responsibility still pressed upon him. The world had changed, and so had he, becoming a protector of Earth, but still carrying the memories of his earlier days.
The communicator in his ear buzzed, interrupting his thoughts.
“Mitsuo, we’ve received a strange report,” Pako’s voice crackled through. “There’s an anomaly in the neighborhood near Central Park—unusual gravitational shifts, objects floating, and duplicates of people are appearing. We need you to check it out.”
Mitsuo’s brow furrowed in concern. “I’m on my way.”
Within minutes, Mitsuo landed quietly in front of a strange house—a house that, though unassuming at first glance, had an aura of surreal energy emanating from it. He walked up to the door, which swung open before he could knock, revealing an impossible scene within.
Furniture floated lazily in mid-air. Dishes spun in a slow orbit, and lights flickered between different colors like shifting auroras. The walls, too, seemed to pulse in and out of reality. Mitsuo’s trained eyes narrowed, quickly analyzing the situation. It was unlike anything he had encountered in his time as Perman.
Inside, a young boy with messy black hair was running around in circles, chased by several versions of himself. Each version seemed to embody a different personality: one was arrogant, another overconfident, and yet another a clumsy, bumbling version.
In the corner, a humanoid robot, much taller than the last time Mitsuo had seen him, was frantically trying to restore order.
“Mitsuo!” The robot’s voice echoed with relief. “I’m glad you’re here!”
Perman’s eyes widened with recognition. “Doraemon?”
The metallic figure nodded. “Yes, it’s me, though I’ve upgraded a bit since we last met. And this,” he motioned to the boy, “is Nobita.”
Nobita waved sheepishly, his face flushed with embarrassment. “Uh... sorry. I didn’t mean for this to happen.”
Perman crossed his arms, his gaze shifting from Nobita to the chaotic scene around him. “What in the world happened here?”
Doraemon sighed. “Nobita activated the Dimensional Swapper without properly understanding its function. It’s a device meant to merge different dimensions for scientific exploration. But as you can see, Nobita’s... unrefined curiosity didn’t quite go as planned.”
Perman raised an eyebrow. “A device that merges dimensions? And you let him near it?”
“Well, I didn’t think he’d press the wrong button!” Doraemon replied, exasperated.
Nobita hung his head. “I was just trying to fix a few things, but it kinda... got out of hand.”
Perman shook his head, stepping forward. “Alright, I’ll help you fix it, but next time, leave the gadgets to Doraemon. You’ve got no idea what you’re messing with.”
Doraemon nodded in agreement. “Exactly. That’s why we need you, Perman.”
“What do you need me to do?” Mitsuo asked, his voice calm and decisive.
Doraemon handed him a small device—sleek, compact, and pulsing with energy. “This is the Stabilizer. You need to go to the heart of the machine, the Dimensional Swapper, and plug this in. It should close the rift and restore everything to normal.”
Mitsuo nodded, taking the device carefully. “Got it. I’ll handle it.”
With a determined stride, Mitsuo navigated through the floating objects and shimmering portals, reaching the heart of the chaos: the Dimensional Swapper. Its core was unstable, flickering in and out of existence, threatening to tear apart the fabric of reality. He inserted the Stabilizer into the machine’s core.
The room shuddered, the energy fluctuating wildly for a moment, then gradually began to stabilize. The floating objects returned to the ground, the duplicates of Nobita vanished, and the portals closed, one by one, like candles snuffed out in the night.
Mitsuo took a deep breath as the last remnants of the chaos settled. “All done.”
He turned to find Nobita sheepishly watching him. “I’m really sorry, Perman. I didn’t think it would get so... out of control.”
Mitsuo gave the boy a stern look, but his voice softened. “You need to be more careful. You’re lucky this time. A device like that could have torn the whole city apart.”
Doraemon nodded. “Exactly. And that’s why I keep telling him to leave the gadgets alone.”
Nobita chuckled nervously. “I guess I should listen more.”
Mitsuo couldn’t help but smirk at the boy’s antics. “Yeah, you probably should. But you’re not the first kid to get into trouble with gadgets.”
He turned back to Doraemon. “I don’t know how you put up with this.”
Doraemon shrugged. “It’s part of the job.”
Mitsuo glanced at the others in the room, noticing that they were all so much younger than he was—Nobita and his friends were still in their teens, and yet their adventures were never anything short of unpredictable.
“You know,” Mitsuo said, turning back to Nobita, “I may be older than you, but I remember when I was your age—things weren’t as... eventful as they are for you.”
Nobita blinked. “Wait, you’re older than me?”
Mitsuo gave a slight grin. “A bit. But the thing is, age doesn’t always define experience. You might be younger, but you’ve learned a lot from your own kind of chaos. Just... maybe a little less of it next time.”
Nobita smiled sheepishly. “I’ll try.”
As Mitsuo prepared to leave, he glanced back at the young friends. “Next time, let’s make sure the gadgets stay put.”
And with that, he took off into the night, the city sprawling beneath him. He knew that in this world full of strange and inexplicable things, he would always be there to lend a hand when it mattered most—whether it was saving the day or guiding a reckless child on his next adventure.
Though the years had passed, Mitsuo Suwa—Perman—knew that the path ahead would always be filled with chaos, heroism, and the strange, unpredictable world of those younger than him. And in the end, that was exactly what made life worth protecting.
