Chapter 15

...Chapter Fifteen: First Day Quiet...

After a few minutes of searching for their classroom, they finally reached the third floor, where their assigned classroom awaited.

"So, this is Section A, huh?"

Peril asked, glancing around with curiosity. Her eyes scanned the room, taking in the surroundings. It was a unique space—an artistic and carefully designed room.

"Not bad."

Joheline commented, her voice tinged with a hint of boyishness. Her straight hair looked freshly styled, as if she had just come from a salon. Though Joheline was one of their new classmates, they had already become familiar with each other.

Selene’s gaze swept over the room. Colorful paintings and inspirational quotes adorned the walls, creating an atmosphere of beauty and creativity. The ceiling, designed to resemble the sky, was especially striking—it felt as though they were looking at the world from the outside.

She chose a seat at the front of the class. She preferred sitting alone, surrounded by silence. Although she didn’t mind being in groups occasionally, her preference was solitude.

___

After a moment, the door opened, and their teacher entered, greeting them with a warm smile. Selene’s first impression was that the teacher seemed strict, but her expression softened when she began to speak.

"G-good morning, class..."

The teacher stammered, her nervousness apparent as she introduced herself. It was clear this was her first time leading a class.

Selene observed her teacher closely. When the teacher's eyes met hers, she quickly looked away, avoiding direct eye contact.

What a fierce aura.

Selene thought, feeling a subtle unease.

The teacher, likely uncomfortable with the attention, focused on the other students, speaking to them in a calm and collected manner.

Does she not like me?

Selene wondered briefly, but she didn’t let the thought trouble her. Her mind moved on quickly.

___

The lesson began, and to Selene’s surprise, it was much easier than she had expected. The material was straightforward and not as challenging as she thought it might be.

After finishing the morning’s four subjects, the lunch bell rang. Students stood up, chatting and laughing as they headed outside to meet their friends. Selene, however, remained seated, carefully packing away her notebooks and other materials, enjoying the peaceful quiet of the classroom.

___

"Selene!"

Peril’s voice broke through the silence.

Startled, Selene turned to see Peril standing behind her. Peril was looking at her expectantly.

"Where are you planning to eat? The canteen or in the classroom?"

Peril asked.

"We won’t be in the same room for the third subject, so you can decide now."

Selene paused, thinking for a moment.

"I think I’ll just eat here."

She replied, but then changed her mind.

"Will you invite me to join you, then?"

A smirk played at the corner of Selene’s lips, teasing Peril a bit.

Peril grinned back, clearly pleased.

"Sure, we were thinking of eating at a restaurant nearby. I’m addicted to their soup."

"A restaurant?"

Selene echoed, raising an eyebrow, wondering if it was far or not.

"It’s just around the corner. We can walk there."

Peril explained, her enthusiasm apparent.

Selene hesitated.

"But it’s so hot outside during summer. I think I’ll stay here and eat alone."

Peril’s face fell slightly, but Selene didn’t notice. Peril turned toward the door, where a few of her companions were waiting for her.

"Are you sure you’re okay eating alone?"

Peril asked, her voice tinged with concern.

Selene nodded, a faint smile on her lips.

"Yes, I’ll be fine."

She could sense the guilt in Peril’s eyes despite her efforts to mask it with a smile.

"It’s really okay. Please, go ahead or they’ll leave without you."

Selene reassured her, offering a soft smile.

"Alright."

Peril said with a sigh, smiling in response.

"I’ll see you later, Selene."

As Peril left, Selene watched her go, feeling a strange sense of peace settle over her. With the room now empty, Selene opened her lunch box and quietly ate, savoring the stillness around her. The view from the window was calming—green trees swayed gently in the breeze, and the distant mountains added to the serene atmosphere.

After finishing her meal, Selene packed her lunch box away and checked the time on her phone. There were still about forty minutes left in her break.

She walked into the hallway, gazing down at the campus below. The greenery spread out in all directions, and students walked beneath the sun, chatting and laughing.

Aren’t they hot under this scorching sun?

She wondered, thinking about the warmth of the weather.

Lost in thought, Selene’s instincts suddenly urged her to look ahead. She lifted her gaze and saw a man from the opposite building staring directly at her.

Who could it be?
