Chapter 7

...Chapter Seven: Unsettling Interaction...

While Selene, Angelly, Rayzamei, and Angeline were heading back to their classroom after buying food at the canteen, they encountered someone unexpected—the famous senior teacher everyone had been talking about, Sir Damian.

Selene, distracted by her own steps, kept her gaze down, but the excited murmurs from a group of junior high students walking nearby caught her attention.

"Guys, guys, here comes Sir Damian! Geez, he's so handsome!" one girl gushed.

"For real, like, ugh! I'm on my knees, Sir!" another added, unable to hide her enthusiasm.

'Is junior high behaving shamelessly these days?' Selene thought, glancing at the overly enthusiastic girls. Her companions chuckled softly, sharing the same secondhand embarrassment.

"Oh my god, I can't stand their behavior," Rayzamei whispered, casting a disapproving look toward the group.

"Heh," Angelly smirked in amusement, while Angeline offered a small, judging smile.

As Sir Damian approached, walking alongside another teacher, Selene finally lifted her head, curiosity piqued. She wanted to see the face of the man causing such a frenzy, wondering if he truly lived up to his reputation.

As Selene lifted her head, her eyes locked with Sir Damian’s. For a moment, it felt as if time had slowed. Her pupils dilated, scanning him unconsciously, and her mind registered every detail in an almost surreal manner.

That was the first time she had seen him, but just as quickly as the moment came, it passed, and they moved in opposite directions.

Reaching their classroom in silence, Selene was still lost in thought when Rayzamei nudged her.

“So? Is he your type? Is he as handsome as they say?” she asked, curious.

Selene snapped out of her thoughts, responding with a curt, “No.”

Rayzamei wasn’t satisfied with the blunt reply. Before she could probe further, Selene added, “I don’t see why the kids swoon over him. He’s not that handsome. My man is much better looking,” she joked with a mischievous grin.

“Hey, who’s your man? You didn’t tell us you have a boyfriend already!” Angeline chimed in, intrigued.

As they entered the classroom, Selene only chuckled softly, not revealing anything. “Oh, him? Haha, he only exists in my dreams,” she teased.

Angeline wasn’t convinced. “Eh… I’m not buying it. Come on, tell us! Who’s the lucky guy, Selene?” she pressed while arranging food on their desks.

The group formed a circle with their desks, ready to eat and chat like the sisters they considered themselves to be at school.

“Well,” Selene began while sitting down, “it was just a joke. Don’t overthink it. You know my mother would be furious if she found out I was involved in any teenage romance.”

Though she spoke with confidence, guilt weighed on her. 'Sorry, Joven. I’m denying you here,' she thought.

Angeline gave a knowing look but decided to drop the subject. “Ah, I see. Well, I believe you. Still, it’s known around campus that you have the highest standards. Boys are too scared to court you because they think you’re mean. I figured out that’s not true when I started hanging out with you, but I guess they’re just afraid of rejection.”

Selene listened silently, forcing a polite laugh. She didn’t want to hear such words. The pressure of others’ expectations weighed heavily on her, and she feared disappointing them.

The day passed quickly. Their science report presentation was a success, earning praise from their teacher. Everything went smoothly.

As the day ended and Selene waited for the school gates to open, she stepped outside the classroom to get some fresh air. She watched the campus grounds, observing the seniors gathered outside.

“Their class ends earlier than ours, huh?” she murmured to herself, her eyes scanning the crowd.

Her gaze fell on a familiar figure—Joven. He was laughing and smiling, his energy childlike and carefree as he interacted with his friends.

For a moment, Selene smiled at the sight, but her expression faltered as she noticed something. Joven was holding a girl’s hand. They were playing around like young lovers, their playful behavior betraying a deeper connection.

Selene froze. Her chest tightened as she watched the scene unfold.

“Why don’t I feel pain?” she asked herself, her thoughts swirling.

“It’s odd… just odd,” she murmured, her throat sour and dry.

Her mind went blank as she stood there, unable to tear her eyes away from the scene.
